Progress on the POM condos...building is quite large too bad the developers decided on a short fat building instead of a tall slender tower

Small condo project on De-Lormier and Rene-Levesque (strange place to build)

Too bad that part of the city is so ugly. I took a stroll there yesterday and almost lost my sight. That being said I do like the POM but think the decision to locate it on what is supposed to be a street of highrises is misguided.

there's still plenty of empty lots on Rene-Levesque so the height of this building doesn't bother me...part of the problem with that area is the amount of losers that hang around in fact right across the POM is a homeless shelter soup kitchen(whatever you want to call it) plus you some bizarre reason Montreal seems to attract trash(mostly punks) from other parts of Canada, as if we need more of this human garbage fucking up our streets

Louis Boheme, POM, Blu Rivage, Altitude....they all seem so provincial in the grand scheme of things. since Montrealers are so keen on comparing their city to european cities why not follow some of their examples in quality and height? For example when was the last time anyone in this village..er city proposed anything like this? modest height but great architecture and its green too....

No we were hoping it would get raised .....it's located like downtown and why not build a 130 or 140m tower

The nightmare on Ste-Catherine west is coming to an end, now when is the nightmare on St.Laurent going to be taken care of?

Work launched on Seville condo project

M0NTREAL, QUE.: APRIL 11, 2010--Plans to be announced Monday April 12, 2010 in latest bid to rescue the western neighbourhood anchored by the abandoned Seville Theatre on St-Catherine St. West corner Chomedey. Here is a view of the interior of the building.Photograph by: Marie-France Coallier, THE GAZETTEMontreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay marked the start of work on a $100 million real estate development project Tuesday at the site of the former Seville Theatre.

The block of Ste. Catherine St. W. between Lambert Closse and Chomedey Sts. has been an eyesore for years, but the mayor said the new 21-storey building should be “a catalyzer” for the surrounding neighbourhood.

Twenty per cent of the 425 units in the building will be affordable housing and the developer will give the city administration $650,000 to spend on improving the homeless situation in the neighbourhood, he noted.

Following public hearings on the project, the developer agreed to lower the height of the project from 25 to 21 storeys.

Artifacts from the Seville Theatre will be incorporated in the new building and a café will be built on the site of the former theatre. Construction is to start this fall and first move-ins are planned for the spring of 2012.
