Seaside, Oregon summer 2017

I went to Seaside, Oregon in August. What a nice beach town with a decent skyline!

Where is that decent skyline sorry?

2 years ago, to escape the heat in Las Vegas, I headed for Gold Beach, OR and I was amazed how quickly the heat dissipated driving over from Medford, which was 100+. By the time I reached Gold Beach, I needed a light coat.

This year, I made the big mistake of cooling off by heading to Grand Junction, CO and east of there to Vail/Leadville. No cooling off whatsoever! Never again!

Next year, back to the Oregon Coast, but this time to Seaside! Thanks so much for posting that!

Do you happen to know if you can fly into Portland and not take a car to Seaside? Bus service? Or must I rent a car?

i love the oregon coast. i have great memories of camping up and down it, love the little towns. i had a little birthday party in pacific city, once. it's my favorite stretch of american coast because it's so quiet and unpopulated, cool and clean. you can kind of eek out a traditional-ish west coasty beach experience in august...just don't spend too much time in the water!

Don't let the swimsuits fool you, it rarely gets warmer than 20c on the beach due to the cool wind constantly blowing in from the pacific. It warms up quickly as you head inland.

Seaside is a fun little town, but definitely geared towards younger kids. Cannon Beach a few miles south is one of my favorites, really picturesque and a cute downtown. The coastline is amazing -- there's a beautiful hike along Tillamook Head between the two towns.

i've been to seaside a couple times -- nice to see it here. i really, really love it. its a lot of fun. please tell me they still have the kracky krab arcade game lol.

Now my cool off trip next summer is all planned out, a 9:20am and 6:10pm departure from Portland/Greyhound. I'll kill some time at Powells before catching the 6:10pm bus.

I'm such a lazy traveler, no desire to put my hands on a steering wheel while out of town! That's work!!!

Nice. I was shocked by how amazing Oregon beaches are, seems like everyone assumes the nice beaches start in southern California.

The Washington and BC coasts are pretty miserable, even directly across the Columbia river.

Nice beaches start in Tofino, BC Canada, the beach over there is just as large as this one and only a degree colder.

There are some remote beaches further north on Queen Charlotte Island.

haha yeah i am the same way usually, but in this case i would very strongly suggest you reconsider. the drive along the coast is just magnificent and not to be missed.

great pics, only got to spend an afternoon there once on my way home from lincoln city to vancouver bc, we drove up the 101, great drive

I remember there was some place that had an indoor carousel in seaside, was a real holiday feeling town compared to some of the other little towns down the coast

Agreed! There are stunning views just south of Cannon Beach along 101... also at Ecola State Park about 5 minutes from town -- you have to do the winding, steep drive through thick forest with views of the ocean below.

Nice. Seaside is cute, but I agree with downtownPDX. It is family-oriented. If you make it up to Astoria, there are two great breweries - Ft. George and Buoy. Buoy is one of my favorite places to have a beer in the summer, where the Columbia meets the Pacific.

A bit further south, Canon Beach is gorgeous, as are points south, but the coast is rugged in places, punctuated by beaches. A good pit stop might be De Garde Brewing, outside of Tillamook, which does exclusively Belgian style sours.

My favorite little town on the central coast is Yachats. My fiance and I got engaged at Cape Perpetua, just south of there, this past July:

Back in 2006, I spent 2 weeks in WA/OR, drove the OR coast and WA coast, so been there, done that. Now time to get a hotel with a balcony, a good book from Powells, and kick back!
