Really enjoying watching this one rise. The perspective from South Lamar is epic! Now when is Downtown going to have another Council Member that celebrates vertical homes at least as much as inefficient homes?!
Good point. In that case, I would think maybe Seven.

Meanwhile, the lower south-east corner of the building can be spied through Third+Shoal cam here: https://app.oxblue.com/open/DPR/cielo

Can we talk about how awesome that plain wall on Third & Shoal is starting to look, by the way?

Not when the bats fly out of them.

I always thought that. They are pretty much designed to be merely functional. The bats are just a bonus. I would love to see some lighted archway or other design elements added, but who'd pay for it...

Yeah, it is totally awful, just like 800 Barton Springs, and, The Aloft / Element. And not that 800 Barton Springs has a huge blank wall, its just awful, not sure I ever voiced my opinion on 800 BS before....

I think you may have mentioned it once or twice but your more than welcome to continue to talk about how horrible 800 Barton Springs is. Very enjoyable.

I was hoping by calling 800 instead of 801, it would disappear into another dimension. Didn't work though....

Their promo email I got yesterday said they only have 10 floors left. I assume that didn't include the top roof screen though.

edit: Currently on the 48th floor.

The 48th floor is at 517 feet 3 inches, which officially makes it taller than the Frost Bank Tower now. The next setback is at the 52nd floor at 561 feet 6 inches. After that, it's the main roof and then mechanical penthouse screen.

Looks like final touches on the model apartment are being put in: the balcony railing is installed, visible in the bottom left corner here: https://app.oxblue.com/open/DPR/cielo
The apartment is B8 on floor 10: http://www.independentaustin.com/wp-...4/IND-B8-1.png

I saw the railing too and I'm wondering if it's temporary so they can open the model unit while they are waiting for the permanent railings. They've only installed on the model unit so far from what I could tell. A while back, I heard they opted for glass railings, but maybe they changed their mind?

They put the same white railing on the next balcony. I bet this is final - they use 2x4's for temporary guardrails. FWIW, the renderings always showed a some kind of a "grille" railing, e.g., here - look at the pool rendering in the 9th floor amenities section.
I'll ask my sales guy when I get a chance.

If they are indeed metal/grille guardrails I actually prefer that over glass ones - adds more texture to the building.

If they are installing on another balcony, then my theory about it being temporary is probably wrong. These railings must be final. I guess they changed their mind again for whatever reason.

And I stand corrected: the full building rendering does show glass railings. They must've changed their minds sometime after the big rendering was made as the pool close-up render shows the white mesh/grille.

I still can't get over the wasted opportunity they squandered by not using the garage roof for anything. A pool, a lounge area, a garden... something.
