Rank your top skylines in North America

Your Top 5, 10, 25 whatever you like!

Here's mine...

1. Chicago (the King)
2. New York (will be back in 2011)
3. Toronto (all-round great skyline getting even better)
4. Houston (would have been 3rd if Williams Tower was built downtown)
5. Philadelphia (now with Comcast)
6. Dallas (mini Houston with more LEDs)
7. L.A. (B of A Tower... and they make porn there!)
8. Seattle (can't beat the view of downtown from Seahawk Stadium)
9. Calgary (fucking amazing for a city of a mill)
10. Vancouver (mountains, ocean and now 200m)
11. San Francisco (TransAmerica + the Bay = top 11)
12. Minneapolis (3 towers over 230m, lest I forget!)
13. Miami (will be moving into the top 5 very soon)
14. Charlotte (love Bank of America)
15. Atlanta (lots of height but too spread out)
16. Denver (the mountains and my loyalty keep it in the running)
17. Montreal (if I could pronounce the 2 cool buildings they have, I would)
18. Cleveland (Key Tower with absolutely nothing else keeps it original)
19. Las Vegas (because it's Vegas)
20. St. Louis (that arch is cool)
21. Pittsburgh (US Steel makes that city look mean)
22. Edmonton (pretty damn good for a city of a mill and a height limit)
23. Boston (average skyline for a city of that size)
24. Detroit (without Renaissance they'd be Buffalo)
25. Omaha (decent for a small city)

Jay in Cowtown's rankings look pretty close. I'm going to stick to a quick Top 20. A few comments on each. Let's see...

1. Chicago - the best architecture, height and proportions IMO.
2. New York - volume is tops by far, but prefer the quality of Chicago.
3. Houston - not much new stuff but the best 80s scrapers went to Houston IMO
4. Miami - just getting massive.
5. Toronto - should hop up a couple notches when the new biggies get finished.
6. Seattle - not huge but well-balanced and gorgeous buildings
7. LA - some pretty cool 90s scrapers
8. Philly - Comcast, Liberty Place and some great early scrapers
9. San Fran - the natural setting and hills are amazing.
10. Minneapolis - not a huge skyline, but love the proportions
11. Calgary - once The Bow is done, might hop up a notch or two.
12. Vancouver - huge, and finally getting a bit of height. Great quality and setting too. Would be higher if not for the uniformity.
13. Boston - nice, but no standouts
14. Atlanta - for all the large number of talls, doesn't impress like it should. Maybe it's the layout?
15. Dallas - lots of scrapers, but hasn't changed in 20 years!
16. Montreal - a city whose wonders are best appreciated at street level.
17. Vegas - it's the neon
18. Pittsburgh - US Steel looming over a great collection of classic scrapers. Needs some new stuff though.
19. San Diego - good volume, needs some height.
20. Kansas City - love the old scrapers

1. Chicago - Almost flawless
2. New York - An awe inspiring city skyline - hurt by the WTC being gone
3. Calgary - The quintessential skyline shape, density. Biased, but I love it!
4. Vancouver - Its setting and that it is mostly residential. Shangri-La helps its shape
5. San Francisco - Again setting and classics like transamerica pyramid
6. Toronto - Quite huge buildings - big tight cluster
7. Miami - Nice setting nicely spread out along the water
8. Seattle - Great American Skyline. Good setting again.
9. Minneapolis - Always underrated.
10. Philadelphia - Nice classic shape, made even better with Comcast

Miami did a good job building in the late 90's. That was a time when things here were really slow. - lots of near 200 meter buildings constructed, and more to come.

The density is amazing !

Layout above par.

1: Toronto, or else.
2: Mississauga. They're like Toronto's little brother. They have to be included.
3: Calgary, because they bitch when they're left out, too.
4: Quebec City, or else they'll separate.
