See, every time Taichung says...oh you guys are focusing too much on Taipei, they get a new project. Now it's the new international terminal with more flights to China....the government will never come out of debt.

They need to increase tax in some ways. People never think they ask too much if you consider the money government hold. There are too much spending government need to think about. Poeple always ask increase efficency of public sectors and government, but how long it will take?

another square greyish/beige concrete whatever building. if they're not going to put effort in coming up with creative shapes - circular or oval or have setbacks, etc. - then all they need to do is cover the building with lots of windows and it will be 100% better looking. instead it's just booooooorrrinnnggg....sigh.

Why does Taichung even need an international airport? It's just 40 minutes by HSR from Taoyuan to Taichung, which means you are currently as fast at TPE airport from Taichung as you are from Taipei.

Taipei will be only 30 min away from Taoyuan Airport after Airport express is done, and Taipei has just got it's own "international" airport back(Songshan). It seems that the central and the Taipei government are so proud of this move. Why not Taichung?
...while Taoyuan's terminal II had water leaking from the roof yesterday.

Yep..some politicians think that they can get a few more votes because this can produce easier and quick results than long term plannings.

btw. actually there were two airports in Taichung. The one nearer downtown has been closed down for developments.

The Invitation

To commemorate the centennial anniversary of the founding of Taiwan, R.O.C. and celebrate the merger between Taichung County and Taichung City, the government of Taiwan, R.O.C. will erect “Taiwan Tower” as an important landmark in the new special municipality. Here, visitors will be treated to a panorama view of the park, the city and the natural surroundings. The new landmark will also help visitors and residents orient themselves as Taichung makes the leap to become a world-class metropolis.

Taiwan Tower is to be located at the southern tip of Central Park, which is part of the former Taichung (Shuinan) Airport site, Taichung city. It will become a vista at the southern end of a major boulevard. Measuring approximately one hectare, the site is situated across from the Economic and Trade Park to the north. The project will comprise of Taiwan Tower and the Museum of Taichung City Development.

Though not aiming to compete in height with other towers of the world, in principle the observatory of Taiwan Tower should provide visitors with a view of the Taiwan Strait. The height is planned to be at least 300 meters. In addition, the site context and local architectural character should be integrated with 21st-Century building technology to symbolize the new Taiwan spirit. Taiwan Tower should also answer its call for environment responsibility and adopt the use of alternative energy. In implementing the government’s policies in energy conservation and carbon reduction, Taiwan Tower will act as a model of green building for the 21st century.

Thus, an international competition will be held to seek a forward-looking and innovative design and enliven the project with a fresh look and multifunctional use. Outstanding design teams from home and abroad are cordially invited to contribute pioneering planning and design ideas. Spread your creative wings and let the dream of a new-age landmark for Taichung take off!

that is the most impressive picture of taiwan that i have ever seen. Considering the pace at which Taichung and Kaohsiung are changing relative to Taipei, it might be more fitting to move the capital to one of the southern cities.

they should move the capital to tainan as that was the capital before. tainan also has a lot of historical buildings so more appropriate for the capital to be there.

Taichung's MRT green line underconstruction.
Just a driving along the road video:

p.s A free HSR shuttle bus happens to be on the right side of the road in the video. The bus line will discontinue after this MRT line is completed.
