Edmonton back alleys and parking lots become selfie destinations

Outdoor murals attract selfies, fashion, graduation and wedding shoots
Adrienne Lamb, Rick Bremness · CBC News · Posted: Jun 09, 2018

Davina Stewart can't wait for visual artist Jill Stanton to finish her latest work, a vibrant mural on the east wall of the Varscona Theatre in Old Strathcona depicting bustling backstage life.

"It makes us feel more alive on the outside as well as on the inside, I think," says Stewart, Varscona spokesperson.

"It gives our building a strong presence. People will see it more rather than just this salmon-coloured box," she said.

Edmonton is going to host one hell of a Grey Cup/Festival. The festival component is 3x + the size of our 2010 version

700' zipline from 60' above Jasper Avenue down into the river valley
140' tube slides
140' ski experience
Bungee jump experience
Giant 'mini-field'
Family zone
Sport gaming zone
Along with a whole bunch of sponsor activations
...team/sponsor hospitality parties/rooms

Hearing some interesting rumors of some concert announcements for Commonwealth this summer...including the return of a MAJOR act that is guaranteed to fill every seat in the place.

The one concert I regret missing the most in my life was the Police playing at the stadium years ago. We sat out & listened to it on the front steps, as did 3/4 of our neighbors on the street. Should've been at that one, because you'll never see those guys together again
