Tromsø - Norway 1-3 January - Photos from my trip

Because of its northern location Tromsø experiences polar nights for 2 months of the year so there is no sun at all from 21 November to 21 January. There is only a fable blue sky which lasts for a few hours

Despite the fact that Norway is horribly expensive (coffee and croissant 10 Euros :nuts I found a bargain in terms of accommodation. I stayed in this private property and I paid 350 NOK per night (42 Euros) and I had the whole place to myself. When I arrived the owner gave me the key and she left. There was cable tv, wireless internet, kitchen, etc

I love the extremes of latitude, north or south. To me, places like this are beautiful in their peaceful, snowy blankets.

When you say Norway is expensive, did you visit other parts? Because I can certainly see why Tromso would be pricey even for Norway--the same reasons Alaska is pricey (pretty much everything has to be imported from somewhere).

You seem to have visited all the places I would love to go (a few of which I have been to or places like them--I didn't get to Tromso, for example, but I have been to Bergen). I'm enjoying the pictures a lot.

Norway is so awesome. I love the mountains and bluish glow.

Great pictures! This town looks amazing! What is it with Norway? It seems like every town is postcard material.

Your first few pictures, of the "evening", are the best.

Oh trust me , Norway is disgustingly expensive no matter which city you go to

That is what I have heard, but I echo BT in that you have been to the places I desire to go most. (where is the Egypt thread??) Great shots as usual.

I think I'd rather go in the winter than summer. I went to Alaska several years ago in August, and it never got dark. I'd prefer perpetual darkness over 24h sun.

Must have seem liked being on another planet compared to your home location.

Plus the aurora.

I've mentioned I wintered over in the Antarctic. We had 4 months of no sun (and 4 months of constant sun in summer). But the aurora was incredible.

Here it is actually in Tromso as posted by somebody on Youtube

I heard booze is really expensive in Norway, that's why I skipped it when I was traveling Europe.

Beautiful photos of a very interesting sort of place. On thing that stood out for me was the absence of automobiles on the commercial streets, and people able to walk anywhere.

Missed this the first time it was posted. I'd like to experience an extended period of darkness to see how I could handle it.
