2021 Municipal Election - Red Zone Time

The next General Election will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021, when voters will elect:

1 Mayor
1 Councillor for each of the 12 City of Edmonton wards
1 Edmonton Catholic Separate School Division Trustee for each of their 7 wards or 1 Edmonton School Division Trustee for each of their 9 wards

-----------------

Will Don run again? When will Nickel announce? Which other current Councillors will entertain the thought of the big job?

First out of the gate for Mayor...

Cheryll Watson
@CheryllYEG
In 2021, I intend to run for Mayor. But collective and sustainable transformation does not happen in isolation. And it cannot be driven by just one person. #yegvote

My thoughts?
1-Don will run again and probably win
2-Nickel will run and lose and then disappear into the UCP swamp sometime afterwards...
3-School board campaigns are usually dull but there have been enough scandals lately that the next election should bring out some real curious characters...

As for Cheryll Watson? No thanks... Read through the site and it's so bland and vague she might as well ran on the "9/11" Lois Griffin platform...

I don't share that view. To me it seemed that she followed the whims of the mayor of the time instead of the needs of her ward's constituents.

don’t you think you’re being a bit too harsh? she was a genuinely friendly person who never met a camera or a microphone she didn’t like...

If every counsellor appeased to every concerns within their ward, nothing would get done.

You can guarantee Mike Nickel runs for Mayor. He's already pretty much all but declared that.

I hope Donny runs again, because if not Nickel will get in...

And Nickel is really just an extension of the UCP.

If Nickel runs for mayor, and doesn't win, that means 4 years without him on council.

There is hope!

Something we can all agree on. Taking a poll one year before an election during a pandemic when everyone is feeling a little grumpy probably has little value on to stoke Nickel’s ego.

Only 38 per cent of Edmontonians believe Mayor Don Iveson and the 12 city councillors deserve to be re-elected, according to a new poll one year out from the 2021 municipal election.

I wouldn't vote for Nickel if he is a mayoral candidate. Never been a fan of his way of getting his message across.

Don't know enough about Knack.

Sohi I've always liked.

At least we'll have a new mayor...

Kim Krushell - likely putting her hat in the ring

Who else?

I would agree with that as well, but it would mean a lot of split time away from family again, versus being in Edmonton.

Iveson being the leader of the Liberal party is a very bad idea. People in Calgary will never vote for him as the ex-mayor of Edmonton. In Edmonton he will split the vote and the UCP will win again.

Curious as to why he is perceived as a potentially great mayor. I don't know much about him other than his time as an MP in which he was very underwhelming.

Not sure that is the case. Calgary likely would not vote for him under the 'Liberal' brand but the fact he is from Edmonton is irrelevant.
