It depends on the value that you attribute to your free time. Spending 2-3 hours to go fill up my car (that's the time it would take from Montreal, approximately) to save 25$ (60 litres X $0.435 difference) isn't really worth it in my opinion.

If I lived near the border, the situation would be different, of course.

Oh yeah I usually fill up here but when I can, making the drive south is absolutely worth it. What a lot of people do is go south to shop once a month or once every month so this is when they will fill up down south.

And btw, you can get to the border in about 1 hour.

129.9 today. Shell, Petro Canada and Esso all the same. Slowly creeping down. I don't recall having ever seen 1.40+ in the GTA yet, which I find kind of surprising. I was looking through old gas receipts from 2012 and the prices ranged from 115 to 138. Now the prices range from about 123 to 138, so the average has gone up, but the range seems to be getting smaller.

Also, I was curious how recent prices compare to 1996. I found this handy chart from Statscan:

Toronto average price in 1996 was 56.1 vs 91.6 in 2009. So an increase of 63%. Meanwhile, according to extrapolation from the data following the link below, inflation between 96 and 09 was 29%. If gas prices were to follow inflation only, then they should've been 72.3 in 2009 (and 77.9 in 2013). However, cars today achiever far greater fuel efficiencies than 1996, so adjusted for inflation I wouldn't be surprised if in the end people are spending the same amount or less on gas than they were in 1996.

Went up to 1.22 on Monday but is starting to drop already. Gassed up last night in St Albert at 1.18. Tuesday in McMurray the price was 1.28.

Fill up there rather than Edmonton. In my experience it is generally about a cent cheaper.

Its only an hour drive at max, find the cheap gas in town. If it is cheaper out there then just top off. The gas price jumps about 1.5 hours drive out.

The price jumped 10 cent last Monday. and normally jumps 8 cents. I used to bitch when it went up 0.03c now the new norm is 8.

It just spiked to $1.469/L here. The reserve is at $1.149/L and the station just over the border in Minnesota is advertising $1.049/L right now.

Drivers across Newfoundland and Labrador faced a steep jump in the cost of gas Thursday, as the fuels regulator approved a 5.1-cent increase heading into the Easter weekend.

The Public Utilities Board lifted the price on all grades of gasoline. The change brings the maximum price of self-serve unleaded gas on the Avalon Peninsula — where prices are cheapest — to $1.433 per litre.

Prices are generally higher across the province, ranging from $1.448 in Port aux Basques to $1.597 in southern Labrador.

The change puts prices almost 15 cents above the cost of gas a year ago.

Some retailers, though, charge less than the ceiling imposed by the PUB.

Meanwhile, the PUB approved a 1.3-cent hike in the cost of diesel for retailers in Newfoundland. In Labrador, there is no change in the cost of diesel.

The costs of furnace oil and stove oil were each increased by 0.74 cents per litre, while the cost of propane was cut by 0.72 cents per litre.

We are spoiled in the Calgary region. While Costco is below the $1.20 mark by a couple of cents, the rest of the bunch is in the low to mid $1.20s, as of last night.
