Yes, much - needed too, it's been mostly a 70s office tower hood with wide streets and mega blocks. Not much street life. This current project, I believe the largest apt project in the city's history, re-introduces a narrow street through the center, breaking up the block and making it more ped-friendly. Now the developers are proposing an even larger dvlpt a few blocks away. The area is well served by mass transit, and close to DT, so this has been a long time coming.

I believe the current Hassalo project will be all rentals, not sure they've decided about the new one: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=214054

The current development is on the block to the left, the proposed one to the right:

Thats some solid density right there. Portland really impressed me when I was looking at some hd videos of the city recently (2014). Denser than I thought.

The biggest change had to be Seattle. Theres a couple of pics in the aerial thread that are stunning. The density being added, along with the various smaller infill is top notch.

San Francisco is getting pretty much every type of infill except for single family homes.

We're getting some of those glassy downtown towers:

We're getting workforce condos on former railyards:

We're getting some big apartment buildings replacing smaller, less dense buildings:

And then we're getting a ton of the smaller, individual lot stuff in the neighborhoods:

White, almost Miami-style 20 storey condos with wood frame four storey condos in between are all the rage north of Vancouver right now.

Ridiculous housing prices (new one bedrooms start at $300,000) keep the designs pretty cheap looking, unfortunately.

Too many stucco-clad "shitboxes" (as we call them in the LA forum) sprouting up in LA, unfortunately. But here are a few of my favorite quality infill projects built in recent years...

8500 Burton Way (Beverly Grove)

Shore Hotel (Santa Monica)

6001 Carlton Way (Hollywood)

For Downtown, I'm particularly looking forward to these two projects...

A few stucco boxes that aren't disasters. White is pretty much the only color you can get away with.

Nashville's Music Row area is becoming a prestigious address for mid-rise condo/apartment development.

This is a crude render of the current and proposed projects in this area.

@Quixote and LA, never mind that stucco for now. Claddings can be easily changed later anyway. As far as I go and to be honest, I'm still glad to witness LA's density gradually increasing when I know how badly the average French cattle is heavily influenced by the local showbiz industry. Condos are a super fair change from detached villas while most of us actually still dream of detached single-family homes when they can't afford old Central Paris.

I thought Philly would have better infill to be honest...consider how beautiful a lot of the inner core is, then infill detracts from it.

that's the amusing thing about Philly, the infill is no-frills and often quite ungainly, but there is plenty of it (done often small-time developers). Also there are tons and tons of rowhouse and warehouse renovations going on at all times.

I remember when I was younger, wondering what a "Post Modern Townhome" would look like. Now they're everywhere.

It seems like many of the complexes look similar regardless of which city they're in. It's like the garden apartment complexes of the 80s, where so many looked alike. I must say the newer infill looks better than the old garden apartments, though.

I love this thread. Infill is extremely important and I love seeing how different cities across the world differ in their approach.
