220 Central Park South and Central Park Tower - astonishing to see these two heroic building next to one another. They almost look as if they support each, while actually they're competing in height... and we already know which of them is going to win. While Vornado's 220 Central Park South, designed by Robert Stern, has already topped out at 953 feet, Extel's Central Park Tower, designed by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill, will continue to grow until it reaches the terrific 1,550 feet in height.

Fascinating to note that only 7 US cities can boast of a tower taller than 220 CPS. NYC, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Houston. And we are only talking about 953 feet. Out of those, 2 cities only have 1 tower exceeding this height. Atlanta and San Francisco. And 3 have only 2 towers exceeding that height. LA and Philly and Houston. Then consider NYC alone will have 22 towers over that by 2022. That is insane to think about.

Definitely looks like it's taller than 220 CPS now.

Has a little over 1/2 of One57 height remaining. So chop One57 in half, and visualize it atop of the existing CPT as shown in the above pic above this post.

One of those pics seems to show how hey intend to address the facade under the cantilever.
It'll be a welcome sight to see the blue protective wrapping get removed bit by bit.

Unlike the other towers in the area this tower has more mass which I think will really enhance it's "massiveness" in addition to being insanely tall.

Clearly taller than 220 CPS in that last pic now. It's hard to tell with some angles but if this tower is behind that one and that pic is taken from the East side of Central Park there is no way the perspective is off now on which one is taller.

Yeah, it's on One57 territory if it hasn't passed it already. From some angles it looks like it has, but I"ll have to get out and see.

Central Park Tower is finally starting to stick out in Manhattan’s skyline. The building, located at 217 West 57th Street, has been obscured up until now by its immediate neighbor and the near-supertall tower, 220 Central Park South. Most significant to this update is CPT is finally reaching supertall status, i.e. 984 feet (300m) above ground.
