Oakland Raiders file for relocation to Las Vegas

The Raiders did not want to wait until after the Super Bowl on Feb. 5 to file even though the relocation filing clearly creates a distraction for the league. The Raiders sought expediency because the sooner they filed, the sooner owners can vote on their move. Davis and team President Marc Badain will lead the franchise’s persuasion efforts to ensure they get enough owner support.

The owners can decide to vote at any time but likely will wait until they meet March 26-29 in Phoenix.

The NFL said the application will be reviewed in the coming weeks by the Stadium and Finance Committees.

The Raiders and Adelson are still negotiating those details.

Andy Abboud, vice president of government relations and community affairs for Las Vegas Sands, has represented the Adelson family in stadium planning and financing talks. Abboud said the filing was a key moment in what once was an improbable dream of bringing the NFL to Las Vegas.

“This is another exciting development,” said Abboud, who is in Washington to attend the inauguration of Donald Trump. “It’s really one of the most significant days in this entire process that the Oakland Raiders have filed their relocation papers to move to Las Vegas.

“So, financing is in place, the team has filed the relocation papers. It seems very clear that they’re going to be the Las Vegas Raiders. So we’re excited about the development and we continue to talk with them, but this is one of the final stages of our dream of having an NFL franchise in Las Vegas and we’re very excited about it.”

Officials exploring possibility of new Las Vegas courthouse

Las Vegas city officials are exploring the possibility of a new downtown courthouse, which would give the city’s municipal court a building of its own.

The city is soliciting proposals for a roughly 100,000-square-foot courthouse at a maximum cost of $55 million to house its six judges and more than 200 staff members. The municipal court currently shares space at the downtown Regional Justice Center, also home to Las Vegas Justice Court.

A look into UFC’s new campus and performance institute

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin really thought he was embracing technology when he started having someone film his sparring sessions in the gym on an iPhone.

He could have never imagined anything like the organization’s new Performance Institute, which is set to open as part of the UFC’s new corporate headquarters in southwest Las Vegas later this year.

The two-story, state-of-the-art facility will be free to use for all current and retired fighters. Media was invited to tour the facility in progress this week.

New $20 million makeover is underway at Hooters Casino

Major changes are on the way at Hooters Casino Hotel in a $20 million makeover. Hooters VP and General Manager Mike Storm has announced two new restaurants, an upgrade to the Hooters restaurant, a new pool facility, a new rock show and a new showroom that will star Las Vegas magicians Jarrett & Raja in an open-ended residency beginning March 24.

“We are here to stay,” said Mike. “We’re obviously not Bellagio or Caesars Palace, nor do we want to be. We’re all about having fun. We’re all about Las Vegas and the local community.”

Mike plans to announce the new restaurant details shortly: “It’s a national brand, an iconic brand perfect for our location and demographic. It’s not owned by a star and doesn’t have a celebrity chef, but it’s a very hot and successful concept throughout the Midwest, with Hooters being the first in Las Vegas to showcase it.

Raiders submit stadium lease proposal, focus on Russell Road site

The Oakland Raiders submitted a proposed stadium lease agreement to the Las Vegas Stadium Authority Thursday as the team awaits a decision from NFL owners on whether it will be allowed to relocate to Southern Nevada.

Authority board members and the authority’s newly appointed legal counsel are expected to review the 107-page document and discuss it at a February meeting.

If NFL owners approve the team’s move — a vote is expected in owners’ meetings in late March — the authority would manage construction of a 65,000-seat, $1.9 billion domed stadium in Las Vegas that would be used by the Raiders and the UNLV football team.

Raiders Stadium Groundbreaking Set for Nov 13

Save the date!!! Raiders stadium to set groundbreaking on Nov 13, 2017.

https://lvsportsbiz.com/2017/10/19/r...ng-set-nov-13/
Quote:
Not many details are available for the groundbreaking. In fact, a source who received an invitation believed it was 1 p.m. but it could be changed to 10 a.m.

The Raiders hope to have the $1.8 billion domed, 65,000-seat stadium project finished by mid-2020 so that the team can move straight from Oakland into the palatial new venue on the west side of Interstate 15 at Russell Road and Polaris Avenue in Las Vegas. The Raiders are not interested in playing in Las Vegas at Sam Boyd Stadium before the new stadium is finished in 2020.
