Perhaps you rode past the wrong lot(s). It's the two block area with the fence surrounding it; where Roosevelt and the sidewalk are torn up for utility work. There are also bulldozers and other large equipment digging up the the lots...

It is the lot bounded by 3rd and 4th Streets, Roosevelt and Garfield. Concord Eastridge site. It's an empty lot with a fence around it. There is the same equipment sitting inside the lot that was there two weeks ago. See me post a few pages back. Nothing has changed since the last time I rode by. No major digging, no foundation work, no new equipment.

This is what it looks like:

I drove by. It looks like they are working to move and remove the electrical poles and wires.

Right, the work being done is the removal of utilities. Had to stop for trucks hauling out dirt this morning. Those lots have electrical wires running overhead in every direction and right down the middle. Can't really start major construction with all that.

At the groundbreaking for the Concord Eastridge project in Evans Churchill this morning, the Mayor hinted that there would be some big announcement coming regarding ASU Downtown campus and that he didn't want to steal the headline from today's event. Concord Eastridge also indicated the project will be complete July 2013 and will add about 600 new residents to the neighborhood.

I like your second picture. The view looks almost like a major city behind the lot with the nice view of highrises in the background and townhouses/midrise residential in the foreground . The units looking south will have a nice view.

Concord Eastridge Apartments

Created the thread and moved all the old related posts here. It's nice to watch things start from nothing.

Population size, yes, it is a major city. Importance wise, definitely not #5. We have one international flight to Europe. ONE! That in itself should say something.

Not to burst your bubbles, but as of the last census we are now the 6th largest.

As far as metro area population, the valley is 14th: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_o...tistical_Areas

Most of Phoenix's residents live in what would be considered suburbs in most cities.

The "city" of Phoenix is quite small, but definitely moving in the right direction.

Not sure where this reply should go, but i was wondering if anyone had any further information about this "hint" from the mayor?

I'm guessing its the ASU Law School. There are renderings out for a midrise on the Sahara block that they've been pondering for a while now.
