YES! I'm happy to see that this building will in fact have a good profile when viewed amid the skyline. We all want tall buildings, yes, but these mid-rise towers give a city skyline the depth it needs to pop. I'm excited to see the finished product.

Here are some updated renderings from the architect's website. Design details are more settled than before - looks like there's a modest crown.

Just did some calculations. If this building is 34 floors it will be 397 feet. If it turns out to be 35 floors, it will be 407 feet.

That striped glass looks really nice. This building almost looks like Philadelphia's (way) scaled down version of Carnegie 57 in New York.

As the years go by, I appreciate the two towers in the background more and more (are they Liberty Place 1 and 2?). They are so understated and really softly turned compared the usual glass box. I'm getting a bit rusty on styles, I guess they are Post Modern. This picture really captures them perfectly.

Yes. The one with the taller spire is One Liberty Place. The shorter one is Two Liberty Place. Fantastic towers and still the iconic Philly towers.

Yup, they're Post Modern, just like most of Philadelphia's other trophy towers. They are very classic and well-proportioned, design elements that many modern buildings lack. I agree with summersm343 that these are the iconic Philadelphia towers, far more iconic that the Comcast Center, which in my opinion is not very attractive. Although 2116 Chestnut most likely will not become a new icon of the city, I do think/hope that it will be admired for the same characteristics that the Liberty Place towers are admired for.

Hopefully one day someone will build a tower so that Liberty Place doesn't have to be the iconic tower in Philadelphia. Blech. Or Comcast. Thhhppppptttt. Two Logan Square is the best overall skyscraper in Philadelphia and the Bell Atlantic Tower is the best of the tall ones. But we all know Philadelphia will never have skyscrapers like:

or:

or even:

Nope, won't happen. Just sheets of glass in the sky from here on out. The first incarnation of Comcast was a way better idea than what we got. Almost everything I've seen proposed in the past ten years is glass curtain. The city needs something, anything, with stone, faux stone, Lego blocks, something other than all that glass.

Update 8/29/2012

Up to the 21st floor. This looks really good in person with the glass up to the 10th floor.

Thanks!

Topped out? No, it is only up to the 21st floor. There are 13 or 14 more floors to go depending on if this building will be 34 or 35 floors. No one knows for sure the what final height is.

You're right - guess I could've counted the floors. The finished height will really make an impact on that end of Chestnut.

Agreed, and it will fill in some of the gap between the Murano and PECO
