^^^ Precast ages ungodly awfully. That's my biggest problem with it. Just look at that building in River North that they already had to grind and grout only like 10 or 15 years after completion. In this climate the water permeates it and starts to dissolve. Hopefully this will result in reclads for all of these monstrosities in 20 years or so a la Aon Center...

That corner section really isn't that bad. I mean this one is actually semi decent compared to the other monstrosities LaGrange has shat out. The quality seems much higher, even the windows arcedila was complaining about actually appear to be reasonably high quality with much more detail than on other buildings of this type.

This building has a shot at turning out semi decent if they don't cover the roof in warehouse tin...

Given the low expectations I had this one has turned out to be a pleasant surprise so far...

does precast age well? meaning after 5-10 years it'll get kind of gritty? I hope so...
It tends to get weird streaks unlike stone products which tend to age more evenly on their surfaces. May have to do with how porous or the density of the material. Just something I noticed. There's a precast building in Toronto that reminded me very much of the Elysian. The weathering doesn't look all that pleasant to me. It also doesn't hide damage all that well. Take a walk by 10 E. Delaware sometime.

Hello Hayward

Though disappointing to read, thank you for your update on the still relatively new 10 E. Delaware.

I'm only speculating as well, but perhaps the issue with 10 E. Delaware is with electrolysis and cathartic protection at the precast interface. The still slightly high ph of the new precast material, exposed to it's first prolong exposure to rain, snow and moisture producing a mild corrosion effect at the interface. Oxidizing and breaking down some of the minerals in the microscopically disassociated precast material, being revealed in the form of streaks. Something pre treating of this particular precast material, prior to installing might address.

If you get a chance, could you please take a picture of the streaks?

I thought 10 E. was poured in place, not precast...

It definitely was poured in place. There is precast on the first floors and parking podium, but poured in place above. You can totally see the lines from the forms. Ick. For a "traditional" building, need to use precast, at the very least.

That is SOOOOOO pretty i_am_hydrogen. I don't get why so many people dismiss all new skyscrapers with classical designs or cladding, it's not all bad. In this picture in particular, it looks like it could be set in Paris, and such a style is therefore totally suitable. I will say this though, it should be done RIGHT. Just like any style of architecture today, it can be done beautifully or shitty. Here's to hoping this is one of the beautiful ones.

I don't think anyone here necessarily has a problem with new skyscrapers as classical architecture. The problem is in the materials here. From far away, it's really not all that bad. What I will give back is the fact I'm pleased there's some good depth in the fenestration on this building. The windows are set back maybe 6 inches or so. It was quite redeeming. I'm still not pleased with the facade tints though. Still makes the building look too cartoonish.

You're correct, my bad. I didn't notice the lines though. They cleaned up all the scuffs and stains though recently around the lower floors. It looked like new when I passed last. I'll give props that at least it can be cleaned easily. Let's hope those good habits keep up.

I have photos taken today from those exact same angles, but the closeups...really nothing has changed actually. Most of the precast put up has been on the back, and of course the tower rose.
