PLP Architecture Unveils Plan for Pearl River Delta Supertalls

Quote:
The existing building typology on the site is characterized by a three-legged commercial complex, one of the first buildings in China to be developed not by the government itself, but by private interests. The new scheme for the site builds upon this existing structure with a modern re-creation of the three-winged plan. The main 595-metre tower is comprised of three components: a 44-storey block pointed towards the nearby park, an 83-storey portion oriented to the central business district, and the final 124-floor volume faces the hills beyond. Forming a propeller-like configuration, the blocks are arranged around a central axis. Resembling a series of doors being swung open to the city, the tower is about twice as high as most new proposals in the region, although it falls just short of the elusive megatall mark.

Ugly and will be dated the instant it is occupied. Literally just doing things because we can at this point. Not graceful at all, the BKL mega proposal for Shenzen, H700, is stunning:

BKL architecture.com

Seriously though? Interlocking volumes? It's like the designers of this Nexus tower heard that phrase one time in architecture school and decided to design a 2000' tall building around it. Why? Is there any logic besides "it's cool"? They even made a fancy animation showing how to chop a volume up into interlocking volumes, but it is not showing anything. Like why did they even make that animation? What information is that conveying other than "this is how the building could have looked, but we made it look this way instead"?

Hopefully for the residents of Shenzen the H700 design will be build so it can completely overshadow and distract from this baroque garbage.

Oh, suit yourself, LouisVanDerWright, I love this Nexus thing. Besides, H700 isn't so cool to me at all. Anyway that does not matter, everyone has their own favorite things. And your building looks like it is near KK100 and Shun Hing Square.

I think any U.S. City would be honored to host such a design. Hell, if this was proposed in the U.S., I'd be the hottest thing out there.

While we all have opinions, some of you might be on trippin' to think that this is a bad design. It's not that bad, c'mon.... lets be fair here.

I Like it- It has a late 60's/early 70's vibe to it, like John Hancock and Sears...

And that's why I like SSP. People are entitled to their opinions and likes/dislikes. I'll respectfully agree to disagree about whether this looks good or not.

Oh, thanks for your support, everyone who likes the Nexus Tower. And shouldn't the name be changed to Caiwuwei Center?

Not a fan. Really don't like that style of design with the massing like that.
