And one of them appears to be doing PR work with passer bys.

Man, I can't get enough of the view folks are going to have there. So nice.

I also wonder what could go on the site of the older condos there to the north of the MACC and how it would/could change this view of downtown. Obviously 70 Rainey won't lose the river view though, which is good.

But every time I see that angle, I can't help but notice those 3 shit boxes north of the Four Seasons, east of the JW.

The Whitley isn't so bad (the darker brown one). They actually did a decent job with the details on that one. Agreed on the other two, though. I would assume they could even be redeveloped later on. I'm just still bummed out the original 21C (580 foot 44-story tower) didn't happen where the Whitley is. That's one of the building designs I really hated not seeing happen.

You're right, I retract Whitley as one of the shit boxes, but those other two...
21C came along when we were easily lured in by the rendering because it came post 80s boom and we were in need of a stylish tall and relatively slender point tower. If anything, that taught us not to believe everything that came down the pike. Even when it came with quite an elaborate plan including sculptures and art at street level if I recall. That bust was a bummer.

I adore the brown box on 2nd street The way it hits the ground is rather charming. Not to mention the lovely detailing on the crown and windows make the building look older than it actually is. The Hyatt on the other hand ugh...cant say the same

Yeah I think that one is nicely done, the wraparound patio is nice. The brick and stucco facade still looks a little cheap and fake but it's definitely better than some other stuff out there.

The footprint is pretty large. At first it didn't seem that significant.

70 Rainey will be 419 feet. The building on the left, The Shore, is 257 feet. The building on the right, SkyHouse Austin, is 264 feet.

This will pretty much fill the gap and complete the continous skyline (line) south to the Legacy when viewed from far west.

Here's a wider view. There's still a noticeable gap for the Waller Park Place towers to fill with whatever gets built on those lots.

I really like the dynamic that area is creating for the skyline. It's not quite a true "south shore skyline" since it's technically north of the river, but it might as well be because of the bend in the river.

I was reading this article about a private residence overlooking Barton Springs Road that is going to be up for auction next month. It was talking about the views of downtown, and they have an aerial photo attached. It shows fairly well how that area is becoming its own skyline.

Haha, funniest comment below that article:

"Rumor has it that it's crawling with salamanders and rare cave crickets."

Once it is all built out, looking from the south, it will create a nice wraparound effect to the entire skyline. Off hand, I can't think of any other city that will have that kind of skyline view. It will be unique and look impressive.
