London in the sun!

I was in London for a meeting last Friday and so was able to enjoy the blue skies and hot temperatures before and after, and on Saturday.

It was also my first chace to try out my new camera, the Sony alpha DSLT-A55. I checked out the new Western Concourse at King's Cross on Friday morning and had a wander through the West End in the evening. On Saturday I went to Camden Town and Hampstead Heath. I walked about ten miles over the two days.

In this thread you'll see what Londoners do in the sun... drinking, sunbathing and even swimming in the lake on Hampstead Heath! Interspersed with buildings, because this is SSP after all

1 & 2. St. Pancras

3. "The Meeting Place" at St. Pancras International

4. King's Cross from St. Pancras

5. King's Cross Western Concourse, opened in March

6 & 7. Megaro Hotel art project by "Agents of Change", completed in April

8. BT Tower

9. Welsh Baptist Chapel, Eastcastle Street. An unusual sight to see the Welsh language in London.

10. The George, Great Portland Street

11. The Cock, Great Portland Street

12. One man band (www.lewisfloydhenry.com)

13. Marks and Spencer's Pantheon building, Oxford Street

14 & 15. Oxford Street decked out for the Queen's diamond jubilee

16. Centre Point

17. The Two Brewers, St. Martin's Lane

18. Bella Italia, St. Martin's Lane

19. Starbucks, St. Martin's Lane

20. Paralympics countdown clock, Trafalgar Square

21. Olympics countdown clock, Trafalgar Square

22. Kissing on the lion

23. Evening light in Trafalgar Square

24. Royal Festival Hall

25. Letter blocks outside the Royal Festival Hall... I can't find any information about this installation

26 & 27. Carerras building, Mornington Crescent

28, 29, 30 & 31. Camden High Street

32. Camden Lock

33 & 34. Camden Lock Market

35. Window display on Chalk Farm Road

36. St. John's Downshire Hill, Hampstead

37. Downshire Hill, Hampstead

38. 1, 2 & 3 Willow Road by Erno Goldfinger, 1938

Great pictures! They made me want to go back to London so badly. The hotel mural is really awesome btw I wish I had seen it while I was there.

Fabulous - you do a fantastic job on ferreting out the best of London's art deco. What did you think of the King's Cross concourse?

Thanks for the kind comments. It's really hard for me to comment on the King's Cross concourse as I don't believe I ever saw what it was like before! However, I do know what London's stations are like at rush hour so I can only imagine it is a huge improvement. The tall roof makes it feel very spacious, and it complements the old building frontage quite nicely.

Nice job showing off an awesome city. I really love that last photo, I've visited London several times, but somehow always seems to miss this area.

London looks awesome in any weather, but there's something special about those beautiful Victorian buildings on a sunny day! Gotta get back!

Great set man. I visited London for the first time in January with my girlfriend who is from there. I was so glad I had her to show me around and to keep me from getting lost on the public transport system. The city is massive and overwhelming, but I loved every nook and corner of it.

Well done.

Your pictures make it seem like Londoners in the sun mostly stand outside of a pub drinking beer.

Wait a minute...
