Agreed. They also light up the one on the taller tower but not the shorter one, and it drives my inner perfectionist crazy. One of the few times JDS Development has disappointed us.
The sad thing is that these mechanical towers don’t have to be ugly. The two little temples at the top of the San Remo on Central Park West, for example, were designed to hide the building’s rooftop water towers. Even a building as ostensibly functionalist as 432 Park manages to hide its mechanicals by just extending the facade upwards another two stories. Unfortunately, a lot of architects and developers seem to regard rooftop structures as an afterthought. It’s such a wasted opportunity.
