What have I said throughout this process - CONNECT THE DOTS!!!

So I got my hands on the document the City Council is reviewing this week concerning the Gulch development. Note this is not just any document, it is an Exhibit to a Master Agreement (Legally binding contract) between the CoA and CIM Group and is expected to be signed next Monday.

Does anyone here have any doubt now?

That's... pretty convincing. Not many companies that can satisfy that set of criteria.

It means the agreement this comes from contemplates the possibility Amazon chooses Atlanta. It also contemplates other economic development activities at the Gulch. Basically, Amazon could or could not come to Atlanta and this Agreement does not tell you one way or another.

Georgia Tech to develop Tech Square Phase III

Northwest corner of West Peachtree and 5th street, where the GT parking office is at.

Holy @#*(^ this is an awesome announcement! I am surprised this isn't at the Spring street intersection!

Edit: nevermind, it is Spring to West Peachtree at the northern portion of 5th st. "Rendering shows the view from Acuity Brands Plaza in front of the Scheller College of Business, looking west down Fifth Street."

Just a disclaimer the article notes the project is still in the programming phase. This is just a conceptual rendering to be put on the recommended projects list for the Board of Regents 2020 FY budget.

Quote:
On Tuesday, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia voted to include $4.3 million for the planning and design of the project in its Fiscal Year 2020 budget recommendation. The recommendation will be considered during the 2019 legislative session. Planning and design funds would allow the Institute to further develop the project plans beginning July 1, 2019.

Will they be tearing down the existing building on the West Peachtree side? Either way, I've been eager for this plot to be developed. Seems weird to have a parking lot in the middle of the busiest area in Midtown.

Nice "cutting edge" design, but with the ever diminishing stock of land available around GT in Midtown, they should really be thinking about a taller building - especially if there is a parking pedestal involved.

It just seems like an underuse in terms of square footage in this current market where land deals in Midtown are a weekly occurrence.

Just a my opinion given the market.

Edit: Actually, the article does say 400,000 sq. ft. - It just does not seem that large in the rendering.

The rendering is more than 20 stories (which is on par w/CODA) and from the article: "The project will likely also include a large plaza with street-level retail and an underground parking deck"

I love seeing all these buildings go up in midtown. Right now I’d probably rather work in midtown, downtown, or on the EST, but live along the EST. If midtown sees infill north of 10th street and gets a few more great restaurants and entertainment spots, IMO it could turn into the most desirable neighborhood. If the EST becomes more dense and has better options similar to west midtown though... it may never give up the crown.

The real shame about Atlanta is so much of the neighborhood retail (castleberry, Kirkwood, EAV, cabbagetown, candler Park, Virginia Highland, L5P, Poncey-highland [i admittedly need to better familiarize with west and southwest retail and am open for recommendations]) are so far from one another and HRT stations. I’d like to see more plans on how to incorporate them in future growth of the city via transit, bike lanes, zoning/land use to support and strengthen these existing retail centers.

Anyways, back to Tech Square expansion... bring it on!!! And push forward with the Interlock, too!

Map Updates

With so many projects coming on board here recently, I've tried to update all of the currently under construction projects on my map below; however, if you see any projects that need to be updated or added, please let me know!

Other than some folks wanting more "wow" factor, why does this tower need to be any taller? Genuinely curious.

The design is interesting enough and the height (500') meets my bare minimum necessary to be classified as trophy, so yes. Let's see if it gets built.
