NICE!

The massing is somewhat consistent with the rezoning-approved version.
This may be a Development Permit version (?)

Rezoning Application version (April 2013):

http://former.vancouver.ca/commsvcs/...cken/index.htm

New version (website address says Dec 2013):
(Note that the top NE corner is not cut away for the view cone - it looks stepped back and angled instead (more elegant)
(but closer to the neighbouring co-op across the alley))

Very un-Vancouverish, at any rate.

With such an interesting façade, I'd do away with the slot. Just glad it's not the earlier iteration with all those 1980's beveled corners.

The Oscorp building in the newer Spiderman movies has a similar appearance:

Never seen the movies, just trailers, but I always thought that was a neat design choice.

I like it. Looks like a hive of some sort.

Not sure if I'm a fan of the "hive" look on this building, or burrard gateway as well, and even Vancouver house has sort of a similar thing going on (imo). It is different though, I wonder if all the flat or horizontal parts of the white hexagons , will become covered in baked on bird shit. (honest question not trying to be negative)

Don't worry they'll install little spikes on it just for you

One of my first thoughts too - but, if you aren't living in it...

Funky lattices seem to be the trend now - to give a building a distinct "look" - it's a bit retro, I guess.
Check out Theatre Park in TO - just wouldn't want to live behind some of the thicker decorative stripes.

I think my problem with the hive or lattice is, it just makes the building look too busy. I think perhaps if the lattice was maybe not white, and blended with the rest of the building a little better I might like it more. (but honestly probably not). I guess I just like more of a cleaner minimal look to buildings (both residential and office).

West pender place is an example I would give of a building I would like to see more of in Vancouver. For what its worth.

I'm a huge fan! Finally, a piece of artwork in a sea of boring squares and rectangles.

I think there's enough buildings in the city for a bit of variation. And considering some of the junk buildings in Yaletown even more of a reason for something more visually interesting.

Wow, love it. Don't know how they would dodge some of the logistical issues, but I'll let them sort that out!

Hope it gets built looking like that.

This is the first design that I've liked for this address, wish it was a little taller but looks great!

Looks like a response to designs like Vancouver House and Burrard Gateway.

Here's some possible trouble for this project from the New Yaletown community association - http://www.newyaletown.ca/2014/05/co...y-barnes-park/

...which is probably why it looks so good.
