Ysj

Reliable source is saying that there will be an announcement having to do with new flights at the airport if all goes well May 7. It was also said it will NOT be another flight to Toronto. Pretty closed lipped, but thats all they cared to say at the moment.

No worries, it's easy to overlook it. Post titles seem to be rarely used on here lol.

I'm assuming that this is a postponement of the April announcement people have been talking about?

Any word if it's a new carrier or just AC bringing back the Halifax flights?

I am becoming increasingly convinced that Air Canada's long range goal is to kill demand in and out of YSJ in order to justify abandoning the route.

My youngest just booked to come home from Vancouver in June.

Air Canada YVR to YQM....$480 return
Air Canada YVR to YSJ......$1400+ return

WTF???

How is this justifiable? Is there a particular reason for this outrageous difference in cost??

The cynic in me says YQM....served by Porter, Westjet and Air Canada. YSJ....served by Air Canada only. Competition matters.

We had a dinner party last month and the topic came up. Every couple at the table (six couples) had travelled in the past few months, some more than once. Not one had flown out of YSJ. Most from Moncton with a couple of instances of Bangor and one Halifax.

There'd be no need for them to go through that charade. They're free to drop routes anytime - they don't need to justify it.

My last 7 flights have been passed around different airports looking for the cheaper deals. But it's crazy to me that 5 out of the last 7 I've needed to commute away to find a cheaper flight.

Was hoping for something great for YSJ but in the end I'm guessing it will be the usual:

WestJet.......Calgary..........rinse...... wash........ dry....... repeat

blah

No chance Porter is coming back? They are growing routes pretty quickly.

If it is Porter, the likely destination would be YYZ.

True but Ottawa is turning into a bit of a mini hub for them as well. You could connect to flights to multiple US destinations as well as Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver not to mention Toronto....and YSJ has been after an Ottawa flight for years.

That’s all the info I got. I believe it was the original April announcement.

I do agree, but the recent expansion pattern I've observed with Porter is they establish YYZ routes first, then if successful at specific locations, add an YOW route and then after that (again if successful) a YUL route. This is why I think YYZ is first in line, but who knows, they could do YYZ and YOW at the same time.

Didn't the last Porter service YSJ had go YSJ-YYZ with a stop in YOW?
I know I'd be far more excited about Porter service now that they have a network of routes going coast to coast as well as multiple US destinations.

It will be disappointing if it turns out to be something like service to Halifax on a puddle jumper.

Porter's fleet only has Dash 8-400s and E195s and I can't imagine there would be enough demand for traffic between YSJ and a YHZ to use a plane of that size.
