Wow!
I wish SF's midrise development was as carefully planned as these new towers. (It's why I never browse Mission Bay threads, that area is so unenthusiastic IMO).

This is going to be phenomenal, with the 400+ foot residential tower next door. And 550- 600 feet, great height!

Love this image

Gorgeous tower. I can't wait to see it when it is built. The SOMA district is really getting some great projects.

Can I get this moved to Boston, please? Love this design. Good for San Francisco! I feel that the entire Transbay development is going to come together exceptionally well.

There was equipment on this site today - an excavator was demolishing some above ground large cylindrical concrete, and a skip loader was pulling apart a two-foot perimeter curb from around the site. All the concrete was being loaded into dump trucks for off-haul. There were also two concrete pump trucks on-site, but I couldn't tell what they were doing besides filling plastic kiddie swimming pools with occasional sludge.

I'm not sure it is necessarily a sign of imminent building construction, because from the renderings, the freeway off ramp will need to be significantly reconfigured beforehand.

575' high. Thread should be modified.

550' is to SF's definition of roof, which is essentially the ceiling of the top floor. But a glass parapet will bring it up another 25', similar to 350 Mission and virtually every tower build in SF.

From socketsite:

I'll ask the mods to change the height to 575' as soon as we figure out the correct floor count--I forget forum protocol. Do we call this 56 or 57 stories (which would include the mechanical top floor)?

^Nice work! Does anyone know what the black outline to the right is supposed to represent? Is it the zoned height and bulk or something?

fflint - not sure what the standard approach is on SSP, but it seems to me that would be 56 floors with an additional mechanical level on top (i.e.: don't count the mechanical level in the floor count). But that's just one man's opinion.

The black outlines may be 405 Howard, Salesforce Tower and 50 Fremont Center (on the right) beyond.

No news, but Bisnow interviewed Related CEO Bill Witte, who confirmed the 2016 start date:

Quote:
Transbay Block 8 site—which, at 550 feet tall will be the largest and tallest residential tower in the Transbay area—is already entitled and now subject to design review, he says. Construction is expected to launch in 2016.
(Again with the roof height quoted.)

Fremont St Offramp

the ramp will be closed from Sept 23 until March 2015. Hope this means they're reconstructing it to allow for the construction of the Koolhaas building. It could conceivably start within six months or so.

Kinda reminds me somewhat in form and the treatment of the glass of this building in Aoyama, Tokyo.(at least the above rendering on this page does)

Very glad there will be a crossing on the west side of fremont. Right now, it's not exactly ped friendly.

With 41 Tehama, and TB Blocks 7, 8 and 9, it will be an interesting, tall canyonous ride off of 280 onto the ramp!

I should post that they have removed the Folsom ramp and have been moving dirt.
