Well, there are plans to finish that. An updated environmental assessment for the Blanco to Wetmore section is currently underway. Which means construction to finish it can't begin until that assessment is complete.

As you can see, the dark gray is the uncompleted section which is under environmental assessment.

Hasn't that EA been going on for two years or so??

There was a proposal (I think its on the same site from which you sourced that diagram) to build a roundabout-style interchange at 281 and Wurzbach Pkwy. That would be so awesome, one of those unique infrastructure features that seem to set apart cool cities.

Ugh, I completely forgot about Wurzbach Parkway. They should hold off on this until WP is completed. Geez, this cities' priorities need a check. Why can't we finish something thats been underway for 20 years, before something similar starts construction!

I have heard a little rumor that if LRT line builds any major steam that the BRT will fall off of the table.

This is a horrible idea, but will not be suprised if it happens.

San Antonio needs to stop letting developers control our cities growth, but that also will never happen.

Wurbach Parkway Traffic Mitigation is also part of the City's 2007-2012 Bond, which is set to improve traffic off of Wurzbach Parkway for the extension.

Maybe I misread but what's a horrible idea? LRT over BRT?

I think having bus, brt and lrt would be great but that's probably not having with VIA, they fail at recognizing what good mass transit is all about.

or utsa.
or la cantera.

i am not even convinced that the Rim/La Cantera area is dense enough for LRT to be useful there. i really think the purpose of it there will be to pick up folks to go downtown. for example, if i want to go to DICK's and Target and Gap, I would either have to walk 8 miles in the blazing sun or have some sort of annoying intra-shopping center conveyance (that happens to cross under I-10).

LRT in stone oak? only as a connector to the med center there and only after a thousand other corridors have been served.

rich people don't get out of their cars. not even for the most convenient rail-system. ask new yorkers.
I think you're exactly right. Suburban patterns are simply incompatible with mass transit. Once people get in their cars for a trip, they won't get out.

This city/county should focus 100% of its very-limited transportation resources on mass transit. But we also need to have the discipline to dedicate those resources to areas where they can have the greatest practical impact, meaning the pre-suburban neighborhoods in or near downtown.

People in suburbia have made a choice to live in an auto-centric, auto-dependant environment. I don't begrudge them that (though I will gladly ridicule them), but we need to have the collective confidence as a city to realize how foolish and wasteful it would be to try build infrastructure "out there".

And SKW, per your original post on the proposed thoroughfare: no matter your opinion on the project (and I think it's a terrible idea) there are a number of vehicles to privately finance the construction of this highway. But a TIF is a terrible idea, and the city & county already know that it won't fly.

I don't expect this to move forward. Hopefully, the days of building auto-dependent sprawl are coming to a close.

Chad.

Why Not

Why not make it a Toll Road? Everybody likes a Toll Road!

Two 4-way stops have been added to La Cantera Pkwy. Do you think a 4-way stop or stoplight will be added to "First Street", the road that is being built to connect eilan to La Cantera Pkwy?

No. This is nothing more than a proposal at this point.
