Man is this building amazing or what? That part of town really needs this building. First of all it will hopefully put that hobo hangout owned by those Indian dudes out of business, or at least clean it up so all of the hobos dont hang around there. Also it will make downtown a lot more dense. Hopefully this tower will ensue another boom like in the 80's. One can only hope at least. I just wish there was more residential downtown, because other than main street at night, downtown is dead.

Some overhead shots I took this afternoon. It looks like they've almost cleared out all of the debris from the old buildings away...

Since the site looks almost cleared, they should really start picking up the pace. I wander how deep they have to dig? One day at a time...

I'm glad it's happening, I like this tower a lot. I wish Hines could come up with something equally nice for our museum tower in Austin, instead of the drab box they've proposed.

FYI - MainPlace is breaking ground on Monday March 3rd, two months ahead of schedule. Cap beam excavation will start the first week, with first drilling operations the following week. The site will ramp up to 3 drilling rigs by late March.

Great news on the construction start next month. I've really been looking forward to this one. This will mean three Texas cities will have a 600 foot building under construction at the same time. That's the first time that's ever happened.

Yes, there's a 650 foot hotel and condo tower going up in Dallas.

And in Austin there's a 683 foot condo tower going up.

The one in Dallas seems to be going up to me, since there is construction on the site.

At the very least, it's on hold.

It's a shame too, I really like the design of the building and think it would be a great anchor for the uptown skyline there.

Over the past week, ground was broken elsewhere in the site and full excavation should be upcoming.

Here are some photos from street-level this afternoon
