[Coquitlam] The Austin (19 storeys) | Completed

I haven't seen this mentioned here yet.

The Austin
http://www.theaustin.ca/

The developer is Beedie Living.
19 storeys.
Corner of Austin and Blue Mountain in Coquitlam.

I notice they have finally put some fencing up around this lot. Beyond that, this project seems to be moving at a snail's pace.

Anybody in these forums have any additional information about this project?
When are they going to actually start digging?

site says over 60% sold in the 1st week ...... wow!

I know a older couple who lives in the Blue Mountain area in a house they raised their family in ... and they were looking to buy into the project as they love the 'hood and would like to downsize and have no maintenance to do any more, etc.

the views looks awesome in the website as well

I still can't get over the butchering of this absolutely gorgeous tower - from 24 floors to 19. And it didn't even require any zoning amendments in its original form.

Most floor plans look pretty sweet - tho some of those balconies are pretty small.

Agreed - the floorplans are nice - why can't they build something like that downtown?

Drove past this one yesterday - all the glazing has been installed (albeit still covered by blue film). As far as the exterior goes, I think there's only some painting still to go.

Didn't get any pics, but here are some renderings that were never posted. Renderings #2 and #3 don't reflect the 25% height reduction arbitrarily forced by Council:

They certainly did a great job in that regard, but I wish the podium related more coherently to the tower - maybe this is nitpicky, but those round columns look very awkward sprouting out of the ground-level units. Can't win'em all...

Given that I recall hearing this sold quite well, I'm surprised there hasn't been more developer interest in Austin Heights beyond a Ledingham McAllister lowrise project. The nearby Safeway in the centre of the area commercial activity is redeveloping with no residential component at all.

Disappointing to see lots of spandrel and vents on the podium where the renderings showed glass, but the tower looks good.

Sorry for the trees and Toyota dashboard

The Safeway redevelopment was approved in 2012. It's an improvement, but sadly there will be no residential component. They're building a bigger store with CRUs fronting Austin and moving the parking to the roof. Elevation drawings are on page 10 if you're interested: http://www.coquitlam.ca/Libraries/Co...0_20.sflb.ashx
