Those 2.8 70-200 lenses are beasts - 1.3kg or more just in the lens! I don't think I could walk around with one of those all day, even if the image quality was worth it. My 7D with a lens that weighs half as much (15-85 or Tamron 70-300VC) is well over 1kg, and I can feel every gram of that once I've been going around for a while. I wouldn't want to make my rig any heavier than that, to be honest. I suppose if I was making money off my photography I'd be singing a different tune, but as an amateur I'm willing to give up a little image quality for lower cost and lower weight.

I hear ya, Chemist. I don't think I would have spent nearly as much as I have on equipment if I was just a hobbyist.....or maybe I would have. I don't know.

Say goodbye to your tripod, bulliver. Awesome colour.

I wanted to test the power of the telephoto outside this weekend, but I can't see anything (one of those days in Shanghai), so it's pictures of cats and birds for now.

I didn't even really consider using the 80-200mm as a close-up portrait lens, but it's not bad.

It's a fun lens, and I can already tell that I'm going to have a Popeye-like right forearm after carrying this cannon around.

Finally got the D800 Thursday afternoon. Still getting to know it, but I am liking it so far. Walked around tonight taking hand-held shots with a 50mm, very impressive. The resolution is almost comedic.
Hell yeah! Cant wait to see some test shots. Im sure it will be sick!

I'm so happy to finally have a top quality telephoto zoom lens. It'll be great for photographing Shanghai 'wildlife'.

Say what? For reals? A 70-200 or 80-200 is an ideal lens for portraits. No distortion! And the glass is always good in them so great IQ to boot. I have read stories about photographers that use those exclusively for portrait work.

I missed this before I posted. Looks creamy and luscious. You may be able to quit your day job soon.

I almost feel like I reach through my monitor and touch the parking meter.

As strange as it sounds, I didn't even think about the 80-200mm's portrait capabilities. I've been wanting to shoot compressed cityscapes and natural crowd/people shots for ages, so that was the first thing on my mind when getting a telephoto. The fact that the 80-200mm does portraits so well is like an added bonus.

Just bought the Zeiss 25mm f2. I was originally going to buy the Canon TS-E 17mm, but the store was out, and I needed a wider lens before the store could get the 17mm back in stock. In the long run, I'll probably use the 25mm more anyways, since it is more versatile then the 17mm. I'll post some pictures I took with the 25 later, but as of now, I can say, it's a great lens with exceptionally creamy bokeh.

Nice, I've had my eye on the 15mm Zeiss . My widest lens currently is 24 which still leaves a lot of room on the lower end. However the Zeiss is a giant lens and at 3K not very justifiable.

I just bought a new lens last month and I'm already thinking about the next one. I can't decide whether to buy the Sigma 8-16 or the Canon 100L Macro - they're both about the same price (at least here in China, anyway) and I'm going to buy both eventually, but I'm still not sure which one I need more desperately.

What other lenses do you have?
