That's a stretch. They have played 2 to 3 less games that most teams out there. There are 5 teams out there with more games played and less points.

They are by no means one of the worst teams in the league. However, they can't seem to find a road win. Their record is 1-4-5 away from Stade Saputo.

Jamaica's two goals against Canada last night came from a former Montreal Impact and a future Montreal Impact ! How nice....

Couldn't watch the first half, but sat through the second. Decent performance by Canada. They could have easily scored a few more goals in the second half and won the game. Sucks, but a lot of positivies to take away....

There were a lot of positives in general from Canada this tournament. Team actually looks motivated and full of potential. Losing to Jamaica isn't the end of the world after the two draws in group stage against teams Canada typically has difficult against.

Is anybody going to watch this series? http://www.cbc.ca/21thunder/blog/21-...-31-at-9-930nt ? It actually looks really well done (for a Canadian show (though they have vastly improved over the years)). Will soccer fans across the league in Canada watch? Or will it only be Impact fans interested in this series?

Impact fighting their way back up the standings. A win tomorrow will put them in a playoff spot.

In other news, Forbes published a list of the most valuable MLS franchises in 2017. Average MLS team is worth $223 million, up 20 % from last year.

1. LA Galaxy - $315 million (19% increase from last year, 2016 revenue of $63 million)
2. Seattle - $295 million
3. TFC - $280 million (2016 revenue of $46 million)
4. NYC FC - $275 million
5. Orlando City SC - $272 million
6. Portland Timbers - $268 million
...
12. NE Revolution - $225 million (2016 revenue of $27 million)
...
15. Montreal Impact - $175 million (2016 revenue of $25 million)
...
18. Vancouver Whitecaps - $150 million (2016 revenue of $20 million)
...

Expansion fee to join the league is now $150 million. Saputo paid $40 million for Montreal to join the MLS back in 2012. That's a 275% increase.

Was at Saputo stadium for today's game. The Impact put on a real show with their 4th straight win. Piatti, since coming back from injury, is on fire ! Now tied in 3rd place in the league in terms of goals (14).

His goals/90 min average is second best in the league, only behind David Villa.

Hope they can keep this up.

I wonder why the Whitecaps Revenue is so low, they are decent in attendance (about 22K a game) and I thought the Bell deal was worth about $4M per season. Is it because they get none of the game day revenue from BC Place or low local sponsorship dollars? Difficult to believe Portland has revenue of $44M in comparison

If Ignacio Piatti doesn't win MVP... 14 goals, 4 assists in 19 games (17 started) and a 0.81 goals/90 MIN. That's some Giovinco from 2 years ago stuff.

Too bad Saputo is a disgrace of an owner who only complains about attendances but ignores that fact the Impact has the 2nd lowest payroll in the league.
And the worst thing is that Piatti is getting paid 450,000$ which is third highest on the team.
http://the18.com/soccer-news/2017-ml...-cap-contracts

Did Ignacio Piatti ask for more money with his goal celebration?

Quote:
It may have been intentional or coincidental, but Ignacio Piatti sure picked an interesting way to celebrate his stunning curler on Wednesday.

Piatti led the Impact in their impressive 3-0 win over the Chicago Fire with a brace, and he celebrated the second goal by putting his hands behind his ears. While most observers might not see that as a big deal, there is a history in Piatti's native Argentina behind the celebration.

Juan Roman Riquelme, one of Argentina's all-time great playmakers, once famously did the celebration while playing for Boca Juniors. Riquelme was in the midst of contract negotiations with the South American powerhouse, and the gesture was done as a way of telling the club's front office to open its ears to his claims for more money.

Interestingly, Piatti revealed late last month that he is in negotiations with Montreal over a new deal. Piatti only has one year deal on his current contract.

"The idea is to stay one or two more years with Montreal," Piatti told FutbolMLS in July. "We are in discussions over a contract, and then the plan is to return to Argentina. I'll be 34-years-old then, and I'll go to San Lorenzo or another Argentinian club and finish my career there."

However, he revealed after Wednesday's game that 2017 might be his last season in Montreal.

If Piatti was indeed asking for more money with his goal celebration, he would not be the first in MLS to do so. Dwayne De Rosario once did a gesture of signing a check, and Eddie Johnson rubbed his fingers to say, 'Show me the money.'

Just give Piatti a blank cheque for christ sakes Joey!!!!

Quote:
The true measure of Nacho Piatti isn’t quite as evident until you remove him from the equation. And when that happens, the Impact are, well, it’s not pretty.

Since joining the team in 2014, Montreal are a miserable 4W-16L-8D when Piatti doesn’t play. It could be worse, since that’s just 28 games stretching back to the midpoint of the 2014 season, but in a league with margins this tight, those things matter. And if the Impact plan on making another postseason run like it did in 2016, Piatti has to have a major role to play.

At his zenith Piatti’s influence is enormous. In bursts, he’s about as important to his side’s success as any one player in the league. He more or less strapped the Impact to his back in the 2016 playoffs, scoring four goals and assisting on two more to take direct part in half of the goals Montreal scored in the postseason.

And that doesn’t include the myriad little things he does to kickstart breaks, keep possession alive and harry ball-carriers with his mastery of body positioning.

Montreal aren’t like a Toronto or a Chicago; they don’t have more than one mainline star carrying the load. The club needs Piatti to be as sharp as possible to blast through to an MLS Cup. Luckily for Montreal, he’s actually bettering his scoring pace from a year ago.

The game day revenue or lack thereof is a big one. I believe they don't receive any of the concession revenues, no naming rights (BC Place obviously doesn't have any) and possibly not all the in-stadium advertising revenues. The Canadian dollar being below .80 hurts as well. Lastly, both the Whitecaps and Lions exaggerate their attendance as was stated in a Vancouver newspaper last year...I remember they had obtained the true average attendance for both teams. Both teams inflated their numbers by a few thousand.

You know, if the Flames leaving meant Calgary got an MLS team, I'd be all over it.

One can dream.
