July 16 (CNA) An exhibition featuring nudes opened July 14 at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Tate Gallery, one of the most renowned art museums in the United Kingdom, according to the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts.
The exhibition, which is titled "Nude: Masterpieces from Tate" and will run through Oct. 28, is a touring exhibition of the Tate and comprises nudes in the forms of paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings and photography. It has been shown in a number of countries, including New Zealand, Australia, Japan and South Korea, according to the museum.
Viewers will have an opportunity to explore the beauty of 123 works from the Tate collection that span the end of the 18th Century to the present by more than 60 world famous artists, according to the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts website.
The artists include Auguste Rodin, J.M.W. Turner, Auguste Renoir, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso.
The works are displayed under eight themes -- the historical nude, the private nude, the modern nude, real and surreal bodies, the erotic nude, paint as flesh, body politics, and the vulnerable body, the museum said.
Judith Nesbitt, head of National and International Initiatives of the Tate, said it is the first time the museum has cooperated with a major museum in Taiwan.
Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts Curator Lee Yu-ling (李玉玲) said she is also delighted to see the artworks on display after a year-long effort.
Ticket prices are NT$280 (US$9.16) for adults and half price for people over 65. Students and people paying with Taishin International Bank credit cards are entitled to a discount of NT$30, with children under 6 admitted free.
