Montreal: My Very First Photo Thread

I only first recieved my very first camera this New Year's, so I don't exactly know what i'm doing so here you go. Just some pics from the past couple days i'd like to share with the people who inspired me to take up photography in the first place.

ps - sorry for the sideways shots

Thanks, and feel free to critique because i've only been doing this for about a week (not to make excuses )

Getting fancy already with the indoor shots and the shallow depth of field! You have a good eye, keep at it. You're lucky to be in Montreal too, lots of opportunities for great photos

Yeah well, i'm emulating a lot of the things i've seen on here over the years. The shallow macro (if i can call them that) shots I'm really interested in. I just wish I could make some adjustments to the focus levels.

edit: plus i got kinda lucky tonight. There was a lot of strange clouds and the sunrays really helped frame some of the outdoor shots.

I have the problem with autofocus too. If you can't focus something, sometimes pointing at something else and pushing the button halfway to focus, then moving the camera back to what you want in focus helps.

all those shots are good, but to me some of them are just totally awesome. I'd usually name which, but there's too many!

Don't make this first one your last!

Woohoo MeltyMan has a camera! Very entertaining. Hopefully, many more Montreal photos to come.

you have a great eye for detail. very nice work. i'm especially impressed by the jacques-cartier bridge shot, the sleeping man, the peel metro texture and the green grass in front of the oratory.

Thanks guys for the really nice comments.

The combo shot was unintentional, but I did accidentally get the nice effect during the uploads and I made sure to stick with it.

Expect another thread in the near future. I think i'm going to explore NDG or perhaps some of the slime around the canal or Ville-Marie.

Superb pictures!

I know the poor guy sleeping on a bench, he was always at Namur Station with a wine bottle when I was working in this area 3-4 years ago.

Some of these look unreal!
Very good work.

I was feelin' sorry for that bench guy.
His clothes seem to be clean - but I think he looks like
a homeless person in that shot... do you know if he actually
really is or is he just a relict of the morning rush-hour who had
fallen asleep?

I happened upon the guy in the Côte-des-Neiges metro and he struck me mostly because of the strange gutteral noises he seemed to make. Almost like the Mongolian throat singers. I couldn't have taken a more flattering picture of him either. The guy looked rather poorly.

There is one vagrant I need to catch up with I met a couple times in the Latin Quartier. Some guy wearing an Indian headdress.

Thank you all again for the comments. I appreciate it.

I remember this guy. Always panhandling for money or bus/metro transfers at the intersection of Cote des Neiges and Queen Mary (adjacent to my old neighborhood).

harls - I think that is Pistol at St Lauren and Des Pins in the Plateau. I'm usually there once a week

Aha. I was thinking of that place when I saw it. Christ, I'm an alcoholic. Look at me, I can identify a bar by the background and it's taps!

Melty, you want a good bar to go to? Try les Verres Sterlilsés on Rachel and St-Hubert. Cheap beer. Superbowls there are remarkable. Plus if you mention my name, I'll get you a free one, I drink there that much (yes, and I don't even live in Montreal)
