I went to Georgia State in the late 90s and having the MARTA station there was a real asset. Believe it or not I went two years in Atlanta without a car, commuting by MARTA from my apartment in Brookhaven to GSU.

Just checked a map of Shanghai - pretty much every major university campus has either its own Metro station, a Metro station nearby, or if neither of the above, a Metro station on a new line under construction to be opened within the next 2 years or so.

Adding streetcars to the Seattle area tally: A streetcar runs along the edge of Seattle University near Downtown Seattle. It also goes through Seattle Central College a few blocks later. About 24,000 students between them. The streetcar was built because the first real light rail line was unable to go to First Hill (tunneling conditions, cost), so it filled the gap.

The South Lake Union Streetcar (the SLUT) goes within 100 yards of a six-building UW Medicine research facility, but that doesn't count.

Tacoma's streetcar (branded as light rail) goes by the University of Washington Tacoma, a branch campus that's around 5,000 students. (Worth visiting...they reused several historic buildings and have added others, and this has helped revive the core of our own little Great Lakes post-industrial city with its urban meadow issue.)

That why they didn't use "trolley" in the name. But the people sure did, made T-shirts, etc.

It's actually pretty amazing how few Portland-area colleges and universities are convenient to rail stations, particularly given Portland's outsized reputation for transit.

Rutgers-Camden, across the river in Jersey, is easily accessible from the City Hall station on the PATCO heavy rail line that runs into Center City.
Also worth noting that Rutgers-Camden has half a Riverline Light rail station on campus at 3rd and Cooper street (the other half is a block down which is off campus).

Portland State - MAX runs right thru the campus:

Tram Terminal to OHSU, connected to MAX

I am always impressed by the hundreds of bicycles parked there daily.

Pathetically, Ohio State, one of the largest university campuses in the nation, has NONE!

Cbus really sucks when it comes to mass transit.

Only 3 of the 10 biggest universities in the US have a rail stop. Pretty pathetic...

Well, that's because nearly all of them are located in the sunbelt.

In addition to the 2 MetroLink stations serving the WUSTL main campus that Centropolis posted above ("University Big Bend" and "Skinker") there's also a station on the WUSTL med school campus ("Central West End") on the eastern end of Forest Park. They're all shown on the map below.

There have been plans to extend the metrorail out to FIU for ages. Might get built 50 years from now. Or at least some kind of light rail or commuter rail.

While none of the four CFP teams have a station on campus, it's possible to get to each of their towns by Amtrak.

UCLA will be getting its very own HRT subway station about 8-9 years from now, assuming the 28/28 plan (28 transit projects by the 2028 Olympics) is realized. Students will have direct rail access to LAX's people mover (coming 2023) as well as 5-6 rail lines.
