After a year, finally!

I will always recommend that people not walk in the dark alone though.

Glad justice has hopefully been found!

I walk in the dark alone all the time in Toronto. I've done it in certain parts Northern Ontario and Nunavut and felt very on edge. It felt about as safe as being outside after dark in South Africa.

Ottawa seems to have another one - police are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead last night in a hotel room in the south end of town.

Running counts per homicidecanada.com...

Regina - 4
Hamilton - 5
Mississauga - 5
Saskatoon - 8
Surrey - 9
Calgary - 11
Brampton - 13
Ottawa - 13
Vancouver - 14
Montreal - 18
Edmonton - 20
Toronto - 77

Montreal and Calgary still have quite low numbers per 100,000 people for those two city's municipal population counts.

(urban agglomeration of Montréal) and not just the municipality.

So with Toronto just having had its 78th homicide, what's the record for Toronto homicides?

1991 was the worst year for Toronto at 89 homicides
2007 was the most recent bad year with 86

Another one in Kitchener. A man shot in the east end of DTK in what police describe as a targetted shooting.

There is no Toronto is having a horrible year but I would add a caveat. It includes the van attack which killed 10 which is a one-off that can happen anywhere and is not at all a reflection of a city's safety.

Also it includes {please correct me if I'm wrong} the 7 murdered gay men who were once classified as missing. Of course they are murders and should be counted but they warp the numbers as they are all counted in this year regardless of when the murders actually take place.

The serial killer victims are not included in this year's total.

??

There is only one being reported on currently, that happened on Saturday.

If a youth beat up and killed a senior, I can't imagine that it wouldn't be front page news everywhere.
