EnCana is actually a significant employer in the Denver area as it is the largest gas producer in the continental US. It purchased Denver based Tom Brown a few years ago.

Selling the project to a REIT was a smart move on EnCana's part. If market lease rates take a dive, it would likely be able to renegotiate the rent.

Most companies lease their buildings. The decision is a function of their cost of capital, meaning that EnCana basically has better things to do with their money (i.e. oil and gas exploration) than spend it up front on a building.

How deep is the excavation at its deepest point? Here in Vancouver, Shangri-La went down to 91 feet at the footings and they ran into precambrian and volcanic rock which they had to blast

774, the height was cut down due to shadow restrictions.

I think the pit is going to be about 100' deep at it's lowest point.

The base of the crane is at 65 feet below grade, which is the deepest point currently.

The Bow

All parked for a few days off (this was at 5:30pm tonight, no workers anywhere on site)

The 4 footings for 6th avenue under the tarps

Not sure whats under here, but its on a concrete base

They've fenced off the base of the crane as well

A bit of water being pumped from other parts of the site (another pump takes it out of the pit)

This one is a little dated, but good nonetheless... you can clearly see how the curve in the part is starting to form the wall for the Bow. I'm assuming that they will do this all the way around and then pour the raft slap into it.

There is a decent amount, but not as much as it appears before they can start working on the concrete. Here is roughly the footprint of the tower superimposed over the Herald's last picture:

Realistically they only need to remove the east rampway and lower the rest of the site only a few more feet before they could start working on the main raft slab. And as my photo from last night shows, they are starting to dig down on that eastern side pretty quickly.

Well, the pit is so huge that it makes the building footprint seem small. That's the better part of two city blocks right there. Remember that there will be a plaza in front of the Bow, then 6th Ave will have to be reconnected before Stampede 2008, and then on the other side there will be the cultural/retail podium which will be linked to the main tower via +15. And underneath all that will be the 4-6 storey parkade that stretches the entire site.

(Part 4 of the DP shows a lot of the site layout, and Part 5 has the drawings for the parkade)

They might go a little deeper. The parkade is 6 floors u/g, and at 10' per floor doesn't seem deep enough.

The Bow

Signs are finally up for the project (I saw 3, two along the north fence at either end, and one along the south fence on the west end by the crosswalks). Prior to this there was no indication (not that one was really needed with the attention the project got before it started) of what was happening, except for the excavation company and Ledcor signs.

The excavation is continuing, the pit is now just level over 1/3 the entire site, and probably close to 3/4 of the site has at least been lowered somewhat. The ramps hit road level roughly 30 feet from the south fence, then turn to the west to the single gate thats in use now. Most of the attention is currently along that west (far) wall, the level along there is dropping pretty quickly now. The far ramp ran along the ridge thats above it just a week or two before christmas.

They better get cracking on the temporary bridge so that 6th Ave can cross over the still under construction parkade. They've only got six months to have it open. Anyone know know if the temporary bridge will be four lanes like 6th Ave is now?
