I can see your point, and even though I think the photo is great, I still think several other photos are better examples of the theme "contrasting juxtapositions" such as "land and sea" and the image of the flowers next to the road. Years ago, it wasn't uncommon to see organ grinders with performing monkeys on city streets, so seeing a different type of primate in the concrete jungle may be funny, but not necessarily a "contrasting juxtaposition" (heck, we've even sent monkeys into space...lol).
con·trast - to set in opposition in order to show or emphasize differences.
jux·ta·pose - to place side by side, especially for comparison or contrast.
Now if the theme was "things that are out of place," then the monkey photo would definitely get my vote. The point I was making is that in many of these contests, I feel that a lot of people ignore the theme and just vote for the photo that appeals to them most. Instead, people should be deciding which photos best meet the criteria for the contest and selecting their favorite from that set. Otherwise, what is the point of having themed contests?
BTW, I don't have an entry in this contest. I've just seen this happen a lot in past contests--not that the winner is usually one that doesn't fit the theme (though it does happen sometimes). But often some of the top vote-getters are only loosely related or totally unrelated to the theme. I just wish more people would realize the point of having themed contests and vote accordingly.
