Guangzhou is such a cool city! Those skyscrapers are amazing [U/C] and many of those proposed will make the city even better! The Guangzhou TV Tower and Twin Towers were a match-made-in-heaven!

I'm so jealous I can't travel there by myself [everyone I know wants to go to like Cancun and Miami but not Guangzhou, and I'm just like "what? You don't wanna go to Guangzhou", and they look at me like, "wtf is a Guangzhou?"]

Look at the scaffolding in this picture!

What a fantastic compliment these two towers make to each other - one skinny in the middle and wide at the ends, the other wide in the middle and skinny at the ends.

Looks awesome! I don't really like the antenna that much. Something thinner, like a needle would've looked better. But the tower is stunning!

The superstructure of the tower is also to recieve cladding, yes?

I just love the ingenious simplicity of the design! It looks like a handful of sticks bundled together.

most Chinese cities have axes, ever since the days of ancient Xian 2,200 years ago, the Eastern counterpart to Rome and later, the worlds biggest city of its time. Basically the grid plan there, bisected by vast central roads, some of them 700 feet wide, gave birth to similar city plans in new capitals of Beijing, Nara, Kyoto, Seoul etc. It was intended to compartmentalise and make logical the city, act as firebreaks and keep the population in check. Today we can see the modern day grid plans across the world. In China these main avenues once leading to the city gates ,and connecting the central palaces, have become the meridians and axes.

map of ancient Xian (Chang'an) about 8th century AD, population 1 million

www.tslr.net

Guangzhou has lost much of its grid plan, but modern day Beijing still has it,
and its historic central axes

Guangzhou is an ancient city, also about 2,200 years old. I'm not sure this axis echoes an earlier one though.

I very much doubt that even 30 years ago people would think that Chinese cities would have some of the worlds tallest buildings in them.

Come to think of it. I would of liked to see floorspace throughout the whole structure. What's the point of putting floors here, and there, and maybe here?

Some of the floors are movie theaters, observatories, restaurants, gardens, etc.

I think the point was to make it a very tall cultural center, of sorts. If you have to build a big TV tower, why not do it with some style, and throw in some revenue-generating functions as well? But not a full office tower, especially not with that design. the floors would be too small, especially in the middle, for efficient office spaces, and probably for even small residences, too. It's sort of Guangzhou's Modern Eiffel Tower (which is over 300m tall, with a total of about 3 floors).

Indeed. At the rate China is now growing, I'm already prepared to welcome our Chinese overlords.
