I've seen a "Cupcakes coming soon sign" for a while, they still not moved in?

Cold, do you mean the funky pickle on jasper ... if so that will be a great contribution to that area. That area is really shaping up. Just need to get rid of (some ... of) those Cash stores and Donair places. Also good for 124st.

^Nothing I suppose, just some diversity would be nice. I don't mind them being there, but I'd like it to be more of a mix, and it's a good thing, because that is happening. Plus a lot of Donair places have storefronts that are a tad dirty.

Don't donair shops add to the very mix and diversity you wish to see?

Is this a new rage? Are both Whyte Ave stores the same chain?

Well yeah, and I did say myself that there isn't anything that wrong with them. It's fine to have some donair shops, don't get me wrong, they add diversity, like you said, and bring in a certain clientele to the neighbourhood which goes beyond shop diversity. I'm just saying that there is a fair chunk in the downtown core, and I wouldn't mind a few there at all, but I think the rest could be spent on other forms of retail, hopefully something unique to the downtown, or Edmonton itself. The other little problem is that (like I said) they don't have the most pleasant/inviting streetfronts/scapes. That could be said for many Cash stores, as well as many other types of stores. I was just using donair shops as an example anyways.

To be honest I don't like donair shops too much, myself, and that's my opinion. Everyone has their own opinion, why you always (not necessarily you RTA) have to question mine I don't really know. In spite of me not liking donair shops, and the fact that I'd probably never be a customer in them, I still want them. No - not for myself, surely, but for other people. It's like men won't be a frequent shopper at a women's store (they may buy stuff there for their mom, girlfriend, friends that are girls, aunts, grammas, whatever) and what not, as I'm sure is the case with many of you, but I'm sure many of you still want women's shops like clothing, lingerie, etc. for the diversity of the neighbourhood even though you'll never really buy there. I guess to an extent that's how I feel about donair shops, they're nice for adding diversity, but they seem to have a sort of monopoly from my point of view on the downtown retail. Like I've said, it's fine for some of them to stay, maybe even 1-2 cash stores, or Starbucks's for another example, but we need diversity. Clothing shops, Indian restaurants, craft shops, galleries, interior design studios, Chinese restaurants, Greek restaurants, British pubs, unique cafés, Chain stores, chain restaurants, etc. are all needed into the mix. Not just 1-3 different things.

They're riding you and now you are backpedalling. When you make a statement like this be prepared to defend yourself. To avoid backpedalling be sure to re-read your post before submitting.

I don't get the so-called streetscape argument at all.

Does every storefront in the city have to look contemporary and modern to pass muster ? That in itself is a circular argument.
