Haha, yeah, I'm even more definitely out. I decided to try hitting some trails today since it's so nice out, and my stupid bike fell apart. Before I could even hit any trails, it fell apart on the way there. I hated that bike so much, and now I hate it even more.

So, I'm looking now for a new XC bike that I can use for both commuting and local riding, and taking recommendations on brands and stores. Can't afford to spend too much right now, but I think in the range of $1000-$1200.

Revolution Cycle. My roommate works there, he seems to think pretty highly about the store. Not sure on the general public, though.

I bought my bike (Rocky Mountain) from Revolution cycle last year. I would recommend them.

Rev is good, but a little overpriced. Their service guys really know their stuff though.

I have a bunch of friends who work/worked at Western Cycle, and they're definitely much better than they used to be (I wouldn't have recommended them 6-7 years ago...).

Stay away from Klondike. They are under-equipped and I've received some shoddy work from them (if you're looking for skates on the other hand...)

Another good albeit slightly more expensive place to go is River Valley Cycle. I've never been to United, but they've been in the business for a long time, which likely speaks volumes of their service.

Really, it depends on the brand you're looking for. If you're looking for a Canondale, Specialized, Rocky Mountiain, or Brodie bike, go to Rev. If you're looking for a Norco, Giant, or DaVinci, go to Western. If you're looking at a Kona, River Valley is your best bet.

Needless to say, there's plenty of good shops in the city if you're looking for a bike.

This is still a go for thursday evening... I checked the weather network but it said that as of right now there is light drizzle in Edmonton (looks out the window at the cloud-free blue sky) so if it looks like rain tomorrow afternoon we'll postpone for a week. Otherwise it's on.

Just finished a field review and that drizzle sure is hot.

Enviro Canada is a little more accurate, thundershowers tomorrow.

It appears so. 7 bells at Ezio Ferone Park, at the north west side of the high level, in case anyone needs a reminder.

I haven't heard back from Ken re: stopover in Riverdale.

there's cold beer in the fridge and if thing's go well i should get there before you (which means leaving early which is not a bad thing at the end of june). sorry about being "out of touch" a bit but life is interesting when trying to plan things around public hearings...

the address is 8823 - 99 avenue and it backs onto the bike path but there's no back gate so you'll have "detour" around to the front.

Understandable given the importance of the issues at hand, no doubt.

We'll see who ends up joining us, and will head your way. The wind seems to have calmed down, which makes for a much nicer bike ride.

Thanks all for coming out and thanks Ken for the refreshments and hospitality.

That was a good time and I think the consensus is that we'll do this again in a few weeks, so anyone who didn't get a chance to come out can make it for the next one.

Thanks for the ride last night, thanks for the cool one, and yes a great back yard.
Nice meeting some of the faces.

I have to say the valley is a jewel for this city.
