It would definitely be the crown jewel in Portland's skyline, or Cincinnati's or hell, any city not named "New York" or "Chicago."

Any idea what it would actually cost to build an art deco skyscraper like this, now? What's the property value of this building? Would the two be about the same, or not even close?

I ask, 'cause I might like to try it sometime.

I want Art Deco more than the next person but greed and 'logic' has alot to do with why this pulchritudinous style isn't used today. Greed is because these days there really is 'no point' (in a developers eyes) to add all the beautiful details on the out side. That's also when logic comes into play. Logically the only reason buildings are built these days is to suit the needs of trade and finance as office space. That's why we see so many glass boxes and a few good ones reflecting beauties like this one, and if it's not an atrocious POS it it met with somewhat praise. But in residential buildings this style should be used all the time. The developer will have to spend 'unfortunately' but he will make back his money ten folds. Just look at 15 CPW. (which is NOT Art Deco).

btw. this building is one of my all time favorites, by my gawd has it completely disappeared from the city. I have a new nickname for it "A BEAUTY LURKING IN THE SHADOWS"

I'm a born and bred New Yorker and this building epitomizes the best of old NYC.

This tower screams Gotham! You can never fully appreciate an art deco building that is so overlooked and overshadowed by their much larger and more recognizable rivals.
