getting ready to pour the roadbeds connecting Commons and roundabout

more skin for the Exchange

northern end of parcel P23

when Terry Francois Blvd is realigned, it will come in from the north and meet the current southern stretch at the NE corner of the parcel, roughly where the closest telephone pole is on the right side of the pic

the southern end

speaking of Terry Francois, they were laying some sort of plastic piping along what will be the approximate alignment of the future east sidewalk - perhaps prep for the actual impending re-do of the street? I would assume it would have to go along with the construction of the arena, which should start within a few months.

and in another possible sign of things-to-come-in-2017, there was some drilling work going on at the northern end of the block across Third from the hospital, where UCSF is slated to start work on a research building next year. as seen from the south

closer in

That Block 33 project is supposed to start construction in June, so likely just soil samples at this point.

socketsite repeats the June start, and has some rough renderings

it has its own thread, but since it affects MB too: Chase Arena has an official groundbreaking date of Jan 17, as reported by Enigmatism415.

the Rutter views

as noted in its own thread, Chase Center site seems to be setting up for a groundbreaking ceremony

the Uber site next door, which seems to be quiet for now

the south side of block 7 as seen from UCSF across the Commons

the mews through the middle of block 7, which I initially had thought was going to end up being too narrow...

has opened up with the removal of construction fences, and is shaping up to be a nice space. this is looking south

looking back the other way

the facade along the south sidewalk also seems it will turn out to be an interesting stretch

a peek into the inner courtyard

the retail spaces on Fourth

and almost coming full circle, the stoops along the north face, on China Basin St, are taking shape

the view up Fourth St

Love the view walking up 4th st. It's going to be a great corridor once all the retail is in. Kind of reminds me of walking around Greenwhich Village with views of One WTC.

I must admit this photo conveys an impression that's a lot less "suburban office park" than the vibe I am used to getting in Mission Bay but it's been a long time (maybe 8 months?) since I was in that area now (and that may be the problem--like most people from other parts of town, I still don't have much reason to go there though the Warriors arena may change that).

I think that's because people conflate the three distinct zones of MB:

1. residential (which this is a pic of)
2. medical university campus
3. original concept was biotech office buildings; now miscellaneous, incl. Chase Center

the last two of course are bound to be a bit boxy. the first, although not as fine-grained as older neighborhoods, is as you see above.

But what happens when the color orange goes out of fashion for architectural facades?

I suppose it's meant to conjure up the feeling of brick.

the Rutter views between raindrops

where work has been going on in preparation for the realignment of the remaining stretch of Terry Francois Blvd mostly fronting the future arena. the black asphalt strip divides the future roadway on the left from future bayfront park on the right

more on the sidewalk surrounding block 7W. south side

appears the idea is for the ground floor to eventually be accented with climbing greenery

north side

Yeah. I've lived here for a while, and I can definitely say you do notice that the buildings tend to occupy much of the block. They can often be up to 300-400 feet long, which is significantly larger than many of the older buildings in the city.

block 7W, south side

looking into the mews

plantings have gone in

speaking of plantings, this is parcel P23 over near the arena site

its neighbor parcel P24 to the south. such slow progress here

technically Dogpatch, but the northern project on Indiana is losing some of its scaffolding

the Exchange

it almost blocks of the view even from the top of the next-door parking garage now
