R.I.P.

A great premier, and an even better mayor.

I would like to respectfully disagree.

In any manner, I would like to express my condolences to Albertans reading this internet forum, as my thoughts are also with the family and friends of Ralph Klein.

R.I.P.

What makes you say that? I don't know anything about him, it seems he was before my time, however the consensus of Albertans seems to be that he was a pretty good premier/mayor. So what makes you disagree?

As much as his latter years as Premier weren't the best, he did more for Calgary and Alberta than almost any other politician. He brought us the Olympics, Calgary's lrt system, got rid of Alberta's debt (which sadly we're buried under once again) and just generally was a down to earth guy. RIP Ralph.

google "ralph klein notwithstanding." One reason why I'm finding mourning very difficult.

Alberta does not have a debt, and will not until next year at the earliest.

^He was colourful and quotable, that's for sure. And it's my understanding he did some good things as mayor. Overall, however, it would seem to me that he was a bit of an embarrassment to Canadian politics...and that's saying something!

Ralph was a great mayor, like Bronco and Nenshi .... all native Calgarians... we have been blessed with some great people running this city over the past 30 plus years.... its too bad your not running our province today, we could use some of your hack and slash now.... RIP Ralph .....

May he throw more money and abuse at the residents not so well off in the afterlife; may he plead to the maker of the afterlife to insert a notwithstanding clause so that he may use it finally; may he meet who he has mimicked, Ernest Manning.

It's not good to mock the poor, and I'm sure he regretted that incident... the people he was throwing the coin at were smoking and outwardly looked healthy, I guess they must have had some kind of mental disability that was not detectable by the naked eye.. the awareness of mental illness was not as widely known nor understood as it is today..

"I'm only human" would be a good way to remember King Ralph. The really likable thing about him was that he wasn't afraid to speak his mind and that he would readily admit and apologize for what he readily recognized as his gaffes and blunders. In this sense, I think Canada could really use some more people who, like Ralph, feel like authentic people who can keep it real and not just be empty suits.

That said, I was never of the age to vote for him and disagreed with much of his policy, which was often very short-sighted and driven more by ego than data.

In closing, I would suggest that while Ralph's legacy may not be long remembered, I hope that his character will.

Ya , Ralph was old school, keeping up on mental health issues was probably not a priority for him.... he was much better than anyone we have had since .... it seems like our current provincial government is leading us down the garden path, with Ralph you got the sense that he would do what needed to get done... the people running our government today seem rudderless.... we are sorely lacking leadership today in this province... Ralph was the last real leader we had ...
