Pages back there are some proposals of some residential high rises which are not under construction and are just possibilities. A majority of what I posted is under construction. Anyhow where do I state that everything is being built? Everything I post is posted from others in the San Antonio room, I just move it over here and update this thread.

Yes its underway as all the other hospitals posted. The Willford Hall Medical Center is being built in phases, full build out is slated for 2016. I would estimate about 75% of the millions of square of retail and mix use developments are underway, the Eilian being the most extravagent of the bunch. UTSA has major expansion plans and construction is underway. Texas A&M San Antonio also has some big projects. The economy did have its effect on San Antonio as well, so some projects are on hold.

Some proposed projects for San Antonio don't know the status on these but some cool architecture to look at.

Reminds me of the restroom doors at Bar 89 in New York. They get translucent when you lock the lock.

The 410 lofts remind of the S.A. Airport parking garage.

Downtown rolling out bike rental stations

San Antonio’s downtown bicycle rental system — San Antonio B-cycle — is gearing up for its first riders.

One of the initial stations, called a B-cycle Station, is being installed today at the Metropolitan Planning Organization offices at 825 S. St. Mary’s Street; pedestrians can begin renting the bicycles on March 28, 2011.

“As a multi-modal transportation planning agency, we are delighted to further promote Active Transportation for our metropolitan area by hosting this B-cycle Station. I expect that many of our MPO staff members will be using these bikes frequently for their local trips in the downtown area,” says Sid Martinez, MPO director.

To use the bikes, riders ages 18 and older walk up to the kiosks, use a credit card to check out the bike, and then return it to any available station when done.

Hours for the stations in San Antonio will be 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Nice! Too bad they're rolling it out just as the weather is starting to get unbearably hot.

^It's still nice. Highs around 85F which is totally doable. I just got back from riding up to the store, and it feels great outside.

Next week is supposed to be real nice though. Highs in the mid seventies and lows in the high forties to the fifties. Perfect weather to try them out.

More on bike stations.

Quote:
San Antonio launches bike share program

For B-Cycle organizers, Saturday's roll-out was both about reaching out to new cyclists like Vallejo, and marking a milestone in the history of cycling in San Antonio.

“I think it will encourage faster infrastructure for bike lanes and all the things we need, because suddenly it's there, visitors will use it, and we need to make sure we can get around,” said Cindi Snell, executive director of San Antonio B-Cycle and co-owner of Bike World, the local bike shop that won the contract from the city to run the new program.

This is also the first such bicycle share program in Texas, a fact that was not lost on anyone Saturday.

The city received stimulus funds, plus grant money for the program from the Department of Energy and the Centers for Disease Control. Bike World created a nonprofit called San Antonio Bike Share, which will administer B-Cycle, a national bike share program.

“The interesting thing about this program is it's the intersection of public health and environmental health really,” said Julia Diana, the city's bike coordinator.

Bike World will maintain the bicycles and run the daily operations. The organization has hired a full time operations manager who will monitor bike maintenance and ensure they are evenly distributed throughout the city, Snell said.

Bicycles, 140 total, will be distributed among 14 docking stations in or near downtown; all but one, at the UTSA Downtown Campus, are now open. Users can rent the bicycles for half hour intervals or pay $10 and keep them for 24 hours.

The bikes include easily adjustable seats and lights in the front and back that turn on as the rider pedals. The cables are all internal, so users can wear dresses or even high heels, and not worry that they'll snag or get caught, Snell said.

Once finished, riders can return the bikes to the docking stations.

The bikes are intended to be used for short trips, like zipping from the Pearl Brewery to Alamo Plaza, or the Blue Star Art Gallery to Hemisfair Park.

“It's to get where you need to go and be done, so it's a share,” Snell said.

Customers can buy memberships by the day, the week or the year. The first half hour is free; each additional half hour is $2.

Austin had a bike share program for city workers, but it was only a few bicycles, and I'm not sure the program really took off well. And as far as I know we don't have a public bike share.

Good point about San Antonio's stubby skyline and the fact that no building dares challenge the primacy of Torre Americana. Seattle and Calgary are perfect examples of "flying saucer" observation towers built in the 60s coexisting peacefully with forests of modern megaliths. I understand why the old Hyatt Regency near the Alamo was cut off at the knees so as not to cast a shadow over the Alamo (although I don't agree with that sentiment--no disrespect to the Alamo). Does anyone out there know what exactly is the standing law/edict that is to account for such a meager skyline for our fair city? Perhaps we can overcome this sentimentality like Philly did regarding the Wm Penn statue atop their city hall.

? Where would that be located? Does San Antonio really have the market for that kind of development? I would understand Houston, but San Antonio? Really?

Judging by the renderings it's 400 miles west of San Antonio in the middle of the desert.

Looks pretty cool.
