A further observation on the pedestrian countdown light, where traffic lights turn yellow when the pedestrian count hits four, the traffic light turns red when the pedestrian light reads zero. This is this followed by a silent "-1" meaning the intersection has two seconds of red lights in every direction!

So that's at least 3 different approaches to countdown timers. Is it that hard to make them consistent? Weird. Even with that quirk, I do appreciate having them around.
On the northwest corner of Osborne and Pembina at Confusion Corner, it's 0, then don't-walk, but the traffic signal doesn't turn amber for another 30 seconds or so (allowing for people to turn from Osborne onto Pembina without pedestrians crossing).

So, that's 4 different approaches

I think that's the same as the one in my neighbourhood.

But yours keeps flashing don't-walk after the countdown? The one on Osborne/Pembina goes to a solid don't-walk after the countdown.

Walking through the downtown SkyWalk today. By the Subway in the old Canada Post building there are two payphones that are back to back. Baisically like they each are enclosed by a semi circle and the backs of them meet in the middle and there a bit of a edge to the floor so its a hole there. Hard to describe but anyway there were two signs on it that read: "Please don't use as a washroom. You are on camera". Classic Winnipeg downtown.

That sign has only been there for a few days.

But that is the reason a few years go, the Cargill building locked it's washrooms and stairwells off the second floor skywalk. Washroom stalls were being used for sleeping and the stairs as washrooms.

Looks like Obby Khan is putting out feelers for a possible political run. The article mentions rubbing elbows with Trudeau... perhaps federal Liberal candidate in Winnipeg South?

Yeah, very likeable dude, that's for sure. Considering how many pro athletes pass through this town, very few of them stay and become pillars of the community the way he has. He'd be a great ambassador for the city.

another great article on the state of our downtown. this is only a few blocks from Glasshouse, Exchange District, etc. Not good publicity for them! I drive by here almost daily and car is constantly swarmed with people looking for $.

^ That parkade has been a trouble spot for years. Many a guest at the Marlborough Hotel has had an unpleasant experience in there.

In all fairness, many a guest of the Malborough Hotel have had an unpleasant experience at the Malbourough Hotel.

This forum, prescient as always, was just speaking of this parkade a few weeks back and its potentially negative impact on Glasshouse. Nice to the see the Free Press piling on because one of their contributors is having a poor experience...

Then it would be back to Lysol, rubbing alcohol and cleaning solvents. It's not like hardened alcoholics will stop looking for a buzz if they can no longer buy cheap sherry.

The issue with Glasshouse is when construction is done will the people frequenting the parkade on Smith continue to walk two blocks from the MLCC to party or will they just head across the street.

The world is very efficient. You know what they say: be water. The fewer obstacles, the easier life will be. I'm sure they'll end up in that parkade too!
