That is true. I've actually gotten to the point where I just appreciate the way a building looks on the skyline and amongst its surroundings. This one will be amazing from an engineering perspective, while in my opinion its next door neighbor and the one down the street will be the better architecturally.

Yep that was the old way of thinking that a floor was 10'

OCTOBER 25, 2016

Eventually, it will surpass the other new additions to the neighborhood...

Wow, that is a very tight site. Question if I may; How many inches clearance between this new construction and that existing building? They have also been scabbling the concrete wall of that existing building, and this tower will absolutely black out any existing view from their windows. I am thinking that property is the same ownership as this new development?

Are either of those buildings on the corner subject to some kind of renovations?

Anybody else notice they haven't added a floor since the photos from 3 weeks ago?

I thought once it reached this stage, the tower was going to fly up.

I believe the buildings were landmarked just as Barnett was beginning his mission to demolish and build on site. For the middle building, he only has to preserve the facade, which is why its still standing there covered.

Nordstrom will occupy the lower floors of all of the buildings.

It definitely looks like they are letting up on the tower. I've been around the area quite a bit and see little action there. Barnett may very well be putting this on hold for awhile. Not a bit of concrete or metal has been added in weeks. Troubling signs.

-Unless they are waiting for a giant custom metal piece for the cantilever but certainly such a piece would have been ready by now. They didn't just design this yesterday. j

It's been canceled. Everyone rest easy.

Here's a little closer look at the integration of the Nordstrom "campus" in all of the buildings...

Saw this Instagram video posted in the 220 CPS thread on Yimby. Dated Oct 25th. Shows activity on the topside of the cantilever of 217 W. 57th.

Everything. The tower, the store, Barnett's credit cards, everything. Barnett has just hired Gene Kauffman to replace the CPT with low rise Courtyards (By Marriott) and one or two Hampton Inn's, (just for the sake of variety). Fedders air con boxes all around, ladies and gents!

^ If it's Gene Kaufman, you can bet it'll be multi-colored with stripes.

Tgat's a good photo to show the difference in the width of the tower from 57th to 58th street, something hard to grasp at this point from street level.

LOL. For good measure, there will be a Wal-Mart at the base, first in the city limits!

I've missed something here. Why does this discussion talk of cancellation? A serious answer please.

We need to spread any rumor, no matter how small or unfounded, as quickly as possible 'round these parts.

Did you hear that Larry Silverstein is planning on scrapping 2WTC in favor of a replica-tribute of MSG, 2 Penn Plaza and Penn Station? Quick, tell everyone!

^ You know that'a the SSP way. Why wait and see what happens when you can jump to conclusions!

Some people don't think it's rising fast enough. Also, Barnett still has financing hurdles to cross. But no, work hasn't stopped on the tower. But we've had similar talk in the 111 W. 57th St thread. Patience is in short supply it seems.

They're doing the cantilever, and this will take a few months before flying.

Cantilever will take like three months.
