kvue is going to do a story at 6 (NOW) on the austonian. catch it on the web site if you miss it. they show a rendering that looks different from the pics we have seen. it looks sweet.

edit: kvue did a good job on the story...except for the fact that they said the austonian would be 120ft taller than the frost tower (actually 168ft), and they reffered to the frost tower as the tallest building in town (instead of 360 condominiums).

the crown looks different from this angle

alright so on kxan the teasers for the 10pm news had a story about the austonian, and stated that it would overtake the frost tower. i emailed kxan 20 minutes before 10 and told them that 360 was actually the tallest. and wouldnt you know, they changed the story and said 360 instead!

This city's boom reminds me of a similar boom in Brisbane, QLD Australia to me. It's truly unbelieveable. Seeing shanny's photo, it seems like poor 100 Congress is gonna be BURIED after all this is over with.

It does look different but it looks nice! I like the original rendering but I actually like this rendering a little better, especially the crown.

Is this the 1st Street view rendering? (excluding Priller's fine work) Maybe that's why it looks so different

That last report (referenced above) has a great capitol view shot from an overnight concrete pour...

I must say, this project is moving very fast. I see more workers on-site than I saw on 360, and there was virtually no transition time between the base/parking garage and the tower floors. It looks like 1 floor per week is a very attainable pace for this project.

I also love the signage for each floor! With Spring doing it too, if we could only get 4 seasons and the W to do the same thing it would be a fun little "Austin Boom" phenomena (sorry Ashton/Altavida! too late to join in)

That photo is destined to become an Austin classic, especially when it comes to telling the story of this great construction boom. In fact, speaking of classic photos, it kind of reminds me of The Heroes of Iwo Jima.

Also, there's just something exciting and dissonant that happens when you juxtapose the old with the new - Capitol and Austonian.

Thanks for posting it, Hookem.
