I was reminded of something when I saw the prominent Aveda sign in that rendering. I believe some of the upstairs space at 633 Carondelet is satellite office space for Neill Corporation, a major distributor of Aveda products along the Gulf. They are also building some business software for salons. Quite the synergy.

Neill is the new owner of the building.

DXC Technology Signs are Up:

Also looks to me like they are building the Nicks Bar Complex and 2424 Tulane Ave at the same time since the fence surrounds the whole block now

Happy's closing

Happy's Pub on Poydras has closed and will be replaced by Copper Vine Wine Pub with wines on tap. The owner of the building (including Walk-On's) has planned it for a while and says it's a natural progression as downtown becomes more residential.

That's a smart move. Happy's vibe is pretty tacky and generally done better at Walk On's with food over there to boot. The courtyard will be much better utilized this way as well, in my opinion.

I know we don't talk about the suburbs much but I thought this was neat: http://siliconbayounews.com/2018/04/...t-tech-center/

Local company that specializes in home automation. Says they have operations around the world. I had never heard of them other than vaguely remembering that somebody was moving into the old T-P building in Gretna.

Very cool! I think something we don't do well in South Louisiana (but are getting increasingly better at) is recognizing ourselves as a region and operating that way. Businesses like this doing well all over the region can help advance the narrative that industries other than tourism can really do well here. I was sad to see Waitr sold to a Texas businessman but they've been a great example out in Lafayette of how the tech industry can thrive in the whole region and not just in NOLA. There are of course plenty of other examples too, and Computrols is one of them. Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now!

Airport concourse A

MSY's new terminal Concourse A has been the focus of the construction camera for a while now, and they started putting up glass about two weeks ago (if not less), and they've really moved quickly. It's the part that's lagging behind the others because it was started later as an addition to the original project scope.

However it looks like they are putting a driveway where the stage is and making the auditorium a lobby. Seems like they should keep the lobby on Canal and retain the ability to hold performances. Perhaps they can get more tax credits that way as well. This type of thing is common on Broadway, where you have a hotel on the street with a theater in the back.
