That looks awesome! University City could definitely use another hotel, as Penn continues to grow and is constantly hosting events. This is a great spot for apartments too. Huge improvement, and it'll ne nice to see the UCity skyline stretch further south and west. The tower looks like it'll be around 350 feet, if I had to guess.

For reference, this is what that site looks like now: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9542...7i13312!8i6656

Ah, so that's what's planned for the Newman Center lot. Awesome. Would love to see a Chestnut St. perspective.

Will we have a thread on 3720 Chestnut? Is this a proposal at this point or more of a vision?

Cities recycle their Amazon bids to lure other businesses. Philly mentioned heavily in this article. Sorry for the paywall, I got this free on my phone but couldn't post it.

^ I got the same article on Apple news, and posted it on the lowrise/general developments thread. Maybe that one will work around the pay wall.

Seriously, Amazon was trolling us all along.
They were never serious.

I hope Walmart gives them some serious competition!!

BTW, I never bought anything from Amazon.

Wow , it's amazing how a little time and some investigative reporting can unveil the dark side of glut and unexpected consequences .

I to read the article and am disappointed in the greed a large employer can hold a city hostage for it's own bottom line . I understand
the potential up side but wonder what the exact costs will be . It could take a decade or more for prosperity to put a smile on the face
of any local economy .
Some things just look too good to be true and the more I read , the less confident I become with inviting the wolf into my Grandmother's
house .

So , after a few months of playing the match game , I think the best location for HQ2 is Calcutta .

On a lighter note, we don’t need Amazon.
Just look at what’s proposed for the Schuylkill Yards!!
If you need more proof, we also have the potential of a 3rd Comcast tower.

Show me an Amazon skyscraper anywhere on the planet!
Right!
We got this!!

http://www.phillyrecord.com/2018/05/...-swing-bridge/

“Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams announced today that the notice to proceed to begin construction on the Schuylkill River “Swing Bridge” Project has been issued to A. P. Construction, Inc. Over the next few weeks, the contractor will be mobilizing to the project site to commence construction activities by the end of this month.

The “Swing Bridge” Project involves the demolition of the existing railroad movable truss bridge replaced with a new pedestrian swing truss structure, which will span the Schuylkill River and is located, just south of the Grays Ferry Avenue Bridge. The project will also involve rehabilitating the existing approach structures and center river pier, installing a new fender system in the river, installing a new mechanical system, constructing a control house to operate the swing bridge, and performing work necessary for trail connections and other miscellaneous construction.

Once completed, the bridge will provide a vital link between the existing trails on the east and west side of the Schuylkill River. The connection will provide communities safe and convenient access to Bartram’s Garden, Grays Ferry Crescent, University City and Center City.

Construction is expected to be completed by the fall of 2020. The value of the construction contract is $15.35M, and is being funded using FHWA TIGER Grant, federal, State and Commerce Department funds.

The Streets Department thanks the citizens for their efforts and involvement during the design phase of this project. It also thanks them in advance for their patience and cooperation during the upcoming construction phase.”

Highrise development in Philadelphia if Amazon joins.
I’m surprised you are confused.

Invariably one or two steps removed from reality or any sensible way of understanding things that are actually happening... But we love our crazy uncles.

I'm still convinced that Outta Here had some type psychotic break that resulted in two separate, distinct, but incredibly similar personalities emerging.

I actually typed up a post about how we should suggest that they start their own thread where they could gleefully communicate in their almost incoherent code to one another and just have the time of their lives. It would also be entertaining for us and perhaps a case study on internet gibberish for future anthropologists and current psychiatrists. But reconsidered thinking that that would be too mean - but, hey, since you started it....

Was looking through future ZBA calendars tonight (I know, I party too hard) and saw a permit request for a 16-floor, 170 ft structure at 1126-1130 Spring Garden. This has been a triangular vacant lot for years, so hopefully we hear some news/see some renderings soon. The owners are East Spring Garden LLC (who have owned the lot for a while) - perhaps a variance-then-flip situation?
