Wink Mount Seymour - Vancouver's Other Mountain

Since Cypress and Grouse got their own threads, I thought Seymour needed a little representation ...

Never done either of the three. Only ever been up Mt. Washington on the island. To be honest I'm not the best skier/snowboarder on earth. -.-

I gave up on skiing ever since places like Cypress wanted 1 grand for a season pass! What a rip off...I could buy an airplane ticket during the low season and still get a season pass in some places in Europe for the same price.

Season Pass Prices (Adult):

Cypress - $999
Grouse - $730
Seymour - $269 (early bird) - $675 (normal)

Whistler - $1,399 (early bird) - $1,739 (normal)

For the cost of Cypress, you might as well go to Whistler.

^ Yeah.

The northshore mountains arent really that bad, and there is some decent back country if you know where to find it (you just have to be sure you know how to get back into the skiable area before you get to low). My only problems with the NS mountains is how damn expensive they are, how does cypress get off charging over $50 for a day of skiiing when you can go up to whistler for like $10 more?? If it wasnt for their rediculious pricing the local mountains would see alot more of my business.

I think that would be most people's type of skiing. The price tag tends to be a little prohibitive though.

As an out of towner, you guys really don't know how lucky you are to have the local mountains. How many other places are there in the world where you can be working downtown and within 30-45 mins you can be skiing! Of course I prefer Whistler (it's one of the best mountains in the world!), but boy do I appreciate living in Vancouver when I am on one of the local mountains at night. What does Cypress have? Something like a 1800 ft vertical drop? That's pretty good... if you are not a spoilt Vancouverite!

Well part of the high costs could be the local mountains are open till 10-11pm while at Whilster the skiing ends at 3ish. So you can get a lot more sking in for the money. Think of the locals as a buffet and Whilster as fine dining.

The spring skiing at Cypress is first-rate -- especially when it's sunny on the mountain and the Lower Mainland is cloud-covered. Better yet, that's the time to get deals on passes (Cypress used to have a spring only season pass... not sure if they still do).

I don't typically ski at Seymour, but I like getting out in that terrain on a pair of snowshoes. It really is a great area for snow sports. I just wish they hade more runs, more infrastructure, ala Cypress.

As for Grouse? Too expensive for what you get, and the gondola is a pain when there's a line-up (and crowded too). But the first-class views make up for all of this, I suppose.

Like the above poster said, we truly are lucky to have this selection of ski hills in our backyard. If you don't agree, try living in Kansas City or Houston, or even Toronto, for a while and see if your opinion hasn't changed.

Seymour may be able to compete with the other two if it were to install a quad chair, and develop lifts on the back mountain, instead of making people hike up there.

Say, wouldn't it be great if Seymour could bring itself up to par with the other two, and they sold joint seasons passes for all three mountains?

Even for tourists who are here only temporarily, they should look into selling discount three mountain sampler packages.
