There's also this at MIA. I have no idea if true, or if it actually matters to operations.

Quote:
MIA is unique among American airports in that all of its facilities are common-use, meaning that they are assigned by the airport and no one airline holds ownership or leases on any terminal space or gates, thus giving the airport much more flexibility in terminal and gate assignments and allowing it to make full use of existing facilities. The entire airport became common-use by the 1990s.

From the map: 1-6, 11-28 = 24 gates.

However, I've found gate 29 and 30 from some unofficial maps, and they are also on navcanada's chart issued March this year, so I've added them in to give 26. Are they new gates?

Really? I had an international connection through MIA a few months ago and the terminal I was in seemed to be dedicated to American Airlines just like any other airport's major hub airline.

Correction:

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has five terminals totaling 161 gates. The airport is designed with expansion in mind, and can theoretically accommodate up to thirteen terminals totaling 260 gates, although this level of expansion is unlikely to be reached in the foreseeable future. The initial four terminals were designed by Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum and Brodsky, Hopf & Adler.[14]

American dominates most of the airport anyway. So I can see how it might appear that way.

According to Wikipedia:

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport - five terminals - 161 gates.

Dallas Love Field - Two terminals - 19 gates. Expansion plans after 2014 could add 20 more gates in a new concourse for a total of 39 gates at the airport.

Bush Intercontinental Airport - Houston - five terminals - 130 gates. Terminal D is planned to have a pier expansion that would add 6 more gates for a total of 136 gates at the airport.

William P. Hobby Airport - Houston - one terminal - 26 gates.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport - one terminal - 25 gates. The terminal can eventually expand to 55 gates. And there is room for expansion with more terminals and runways.

San Antonio International Airport - two terminals - 24 gates. A third terminal is planned with 5 gates initially that could be expanded to 11 gates later for a total of 35 gates in three terminals. There's even a plan for a fourth terminal with 20 more gates which would push the total to 55 gates for the airport.

El Paso International Airport - one terminal - 15 gates.

Love Field isn't be expanded. Its airside is being completely rebuilt. After the new concourse is built, all the old concourses will be demolished. They had to level one old concourse before they even started building the new concourse.

When the entire rebuilding of Love Field is competed, it will have just 20 gates.

FYI, back on the first page I'm updating the overall list whenever anyone posts a new airport.

I'm only showing existing gates, and applying a cut-off of 10 gates.

This somewhat confirms a suspicion of mine: of all the major hubs I've flown through, ATL and LAX are the only ones where practically every inch of the airport is busy and every gate has a plane parked at it. These two airports definitely make maximum use of both their terminal and airfield spaces. Even sections of DFW and ORD can be eerily quiet in the middle of the day.
