Sounds like a great idea and would fit very well into the Richmond Streetscape.

This would be a great use of space considering what is there currently, see no reason why this does not get approved and moving quickly

I am pretty sure I saw a FB event page a little while ago about a fundraising event being held on the old GTs patio in like April. I cant find the event anymore. If my eyes saw right then maybe nothing will be getting done in the near future.

Heritage alteration permit for this proposal. Not sure how well YOU are doing in terms of the fund raising efforts in order to actually build this project. The last I saw was they were still behind reaching the goal.

goodbye GTs and good riddance. That corner is so prominent, yet it has become an eyesore.

Any word on when they are actually starting construction? The first renders for this project were shown almost 4 years ago

They have put up concrete road barriers and scaffolding for sidewalk to use the sidewalk for construction. Result is lane closure on Richmond and York now. Appears they are prepping to start on this YOU redevelopment of the old New Yorker theatre and bar site.
Fund raising still ongoing for Joan's Place - https://www.you.ca/joans-place

Norlon Builders sign up so suspect they are the general contractor for this project. Also have an excavator onsite now and have installed braces for the Richmond Street facade. Will be interesting process to watch when they remove the old steel cross beams over the old New Yorker movie theatre so they can access the central core. Going to be a tough logistical challenge given how little space they have to work in.

Heavy machine onsite today removing the interior cross beams in the old New Yorker theatre. They definitely are trying to keep the Richmond street facade intact.

Looks like only the Richmond St facade and a bit of the corner is being retained as the demolition has removed everything else of the old New Yorker cinema. Have even started excavating out the basement. Not sure if they plan to have a full basement or not for the new 6 floor building. Will also be interesting if they decide to setup a tower crane for this project.

Looks like the Richmond St facade is now gone. Suspect it was not structurally sound. Oxford Builders trucks were on site and they might be reviewing the site to plan for a tower crane. They are one of the larger crane rental companies in SW Ontario. Would make alot of sense to use a crane to build this 6s building. Should see foundation work starting next.
