It's hard to believe this is still happening at this point.

However, according to a source in the city, this project is "far from dead" when I asked point blank "is it dead?" This was a couple months ago however.

The city must have a different definition of "dead" than the rest of us.

Perhaps the city of Regina is a fan of the "Walking Dead"??

The Plains' neon weather vane/mast is for sale on kijiji.

What-the-hell is with that?

Yeah, whatever that means. Maybe the developer changed their mind about using it in the new project. I always thought the planned location for the weather beacon on the new hotel left much to be desired. I feel that a better location would have been at the very top of the condo tower in place of the spire.

Let's hope this doesn't mean the project isn't going ahead

For any project to proceed without the weather spire would be abjectly immoral.

Perhaps it was in storage somewhere and the fees went unpaid, so now they have lost possession of it?

The media seems to like to look into this story once in a while... wonder if this will be something that's picked up.

I think you can assume that regardless.

Plains Hotel sign not for sale despite Kijiji ad

REGINA – After a bit of miscommunication, it turns out a famous Regina landmark sign is not actually for sale.

The Plains Hotel heritage sign and weather tower that once sat atop the Plains Hotel was put up for sale on Kijiji on Saturday, but it sounds like the ad will be removed before the sign is sold.

Prairie Signs was storing the sign and contacted the original owners of Capital Pointe, who said they had no use for the sign anymore and it could be put up for sale.

However, the development had changed hands, and the current owners of Capital Pointe – Fortress Real Developments – said the whole thing was a misunderstanding due to a lack of communication.

Fortress still plans on incorporating the sign into the Capital Pointe Development.

Fortress Real Developments told Global News that they will be in Regina next week to announce a construction start date.

Interesting... I wonder what the new date will be...I'm guessing another "Spring (insert next year here)".

There is a lot of chatter on CBC Radio/TV about a major announcement next week.

The weather mast sure made news as well.

The only announcement that would seem reliable to me at this point is if they announced the hotel tenant... They would likely have to get things rolling (at least the hotel part) if there was a contract signed between them and a large hotel chain.

If it's any construction start-date started... ill believe it when the first crane arrives on site!

The Mayor is suggesting they have applied "for a building permit to start some of the preliminary work once again", which usually means excavation and shoring and perhaps also pilings. He did not say the City issued the permit, but that is usually automatic if they have all development and zoning approvals, which they previously had, assuming they are not expired.

^Development permit (second one) was approved in November 2014 and expired in June 2015.

Third time lucky?

Haha, could the new announcement be another permit?

Have to give them credit. I you were asked to come up with a series of announcements that sound substantive but in reality mean nothing and don't commit the company to doing anything - most of us would have ran out of ideas years ago.

I think my favorite was the mural painting contest on the hoarding....followed closely by going back to the drawing board to redesign and incorporate a (? pick a number) floor underground parkade to offer more parking.

This is just painful for me, as I am a huge fan of this building.

If it is dead, just announce it is dead, instead of trying to psyche us up for me :/

They will not announce it is dead because they need it to pad their portfolio of highrise developments to "psyche up" potential buyers in other markets.
